CR 15 playable monster... [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-25-05, 11:33 PM Okay, here's the scoop. We have a one-off gaming session coming up. each player is coming as a CR 15 monster (or level 15 character with tricked out stats). No equipment. No real restrictions. What is the best monster for this situation? IT is a one-off, so I feel justified in my munch. My first thought is an adult radiant dragon, monk 1, but that has little healing or spellcasting, so basically deals and absorbs alot of damage (few immunities too). Gold dragon has better spellcasting (and can shapechange for smaller spaces), but lower numbers. Most of the spellcaster monsters (such as ghaeles) are massively fragile. What would people suggest?

05-27-05, 02:17 PM A pumped up Pyroclastic Dragon (should be an Adult or Mature Adult) that has an absurd amount of consitution. Grab Heighten Breath, and have fun with your disinigrating breath weapon.

Technically, without class levels, I'm around a CR 15 as well. Whatever the CR for arcanaloths are, it was around 13-15 range IIRC. But it's a disturbingly pretty CR 15ish ;)

05-27-05, 09:43 PM I'm sure you could go with more sheer power, but could do worse than a Rakshasa Eldritch Knight 5 (assuming EK levels stack with rakshasa spellcasting the same way they would with actual sorcerer levels). You've got SR 32 and DR 15 good+piercing, and with alternate form you never look like a rakshasa so it isn't obvious what breaks your DR. Cast like a 11th level sorcerer, take buff spells, burn the rest of your slots using Arcane Strike....

Raw draconic power? Nope. But you'll be pretty tough to take down, and have some nasty surprises of your own.

Gargantuan Elemental [Extraplanar + Air/Earth/Fire/Water]
32 hit dice, slams that do 5d8+Str (various elemental damage), ranged attack, flight, swim. abilities are 35/10/28/10/11/11.

it's big and scarey.

05-28-05, 10:56 PM Heh. No contest in my mind. A Marut Inevitable is fun. AC 34, attack +22, damage is 2d6+12+3d6 sonic or electricity, 15d10+30 hp, spell resistance 25, DR 15/chaotic (and chaotic weapons are hard to find), fast healing 10, some nice spell-like abilities, and with every attack, you get to choose whether to blind or deafen the subject, both DC 31, etc. Me likey. Depending on the battlefield, you might wanna start the battle with a DC 22 Earthquake.
