I have a game coming up saturday that I could use a little input on.

The party (5 level 5's) has just reached a waypoint in the form of a ranch belonging to the family of one of the characters. Very prominent, has some protection, but not meant to stand up against sieges yet.

I'm planning on having the orc/goblin alliance they party just (severely) offended a day back on their journey come out and start bombarding the place. Here's more background.

The orcs and goblins haven't been seen in civilized lands for just barely 20 years. The last time they were seen was a raid on the northern areas of a country known as Crowax, of which this ranch was one of them. The initial raid involved a lot of monsterous riders, wolves, worgs, etc, and not anything compared to what I'm planning on this time. 20 years ago, the raids that included both orcs and goblins had some in-fighting, but mostly they took what they could. After some time the tribes and bands joined together with new goals in mind, and began to build up with the resources they had in the mountains.

Geography: The party just came south out of a long wide valley that led into the mountains to the north. The ranch is just outside that path. The valley's known as gryphon breeding grounds, but the wild horses running the valleys and foothills keep them fed most of the time, barring bad winters when they come down occasionally to hit the ranch and northern lands. The orcs and goblins' new base of operations is an orc-cut area on both sides of the valley a day's march from the ranch that had secret entrances made for it by the goblin engineers.

What they've been doing: building siege engines, capturing and taming gryphons for riding, and building up their magical resources thanks to joined talent in the leadership. (1 sorc, 1 shaman, and 1 psion (goblin blue)) The way they've been capturing gryphons, up till the day the party intercepted the attempt, was using net launchers (goblin made and manned) to catch them as they swooped down, then drag them inside to the animal trainers.

What I'm looking for is ideas on the kinds of things they'd have likely built. I don't want it to be too over-the top, and with options of retreat if need be. I have a couple of catapults in mind that will mostly target walls and ranch targets, a few of the boulders 'enhanced', and 3 of the leadership will be on hand to intercept party interference. (there's a few fighters in there too)

Any ideas welcome, thanks. :)

maybe some sort of harpoon/chain launching device to shoot & drag down things ( could work for wagons, walls, or even monsters ) also depending on the brutality involved, some type of turreted weapon, maybe with multiple wands on it or something of the like manned by the sorc or psion?

thats all i have for now but i will get back to you on this because it seems like an awesome capaign idea....

Without giving the PCs wands, preferrably. It's an interesting idea for a group with less resources than the lands they're planning on assaulting.

I'm also thinking of using the launchers like the ones I described for the nets to catch the gyphons to launch similar packets enchanted (by the sorc) to spread Web on impact. (limited ammo, like the enchanted catapult ammo)
