Shadowfax7 12-14-04, 09:11 PM	In the updated 3.5 FAQ (12/10/04) on pg. 43 is a question regarding "How much XP is an EL 5 encounter worth", but it continues on with examples of EL for various CRs. Now the 1st two examples are understood . . . a CR 5 creature is an EL 5 encounter and two CR 3 creatures are an EL 5 encounter (doubling the number of creatures of the same CR grants a +2 to the EL). However, the 3rd example is a CR 4 creature and two CR 1 creatures are an EL 5 encounter. Why ?? Would they not be an EL 6 encounter ?? What about nine CR 1/2 1st level Warriors + one CR 2 3rd level Warrior, is that a EL 5 or 6 ? .
The Abominable Darkling 12-14-04, 10:39 PM	Well, two CR 1's make an EL 2. An EL 2 + an EL 4 = EL 5 (using the mixed pair rule from the DMG). 9 CR 1/2's would be an EL 4 or 5. Let's call it an EL 4 since it would be an easy fight. An EL 4 + an EL 2 = EL 5 (same as above). But note that the EL system does not work well for large numbers of weak creatures like this. A level 5 party would find this a very easy fight.
