EXAMPLE!: A wyvern that can cast Call Lightning at Will as a Spell Like ability.. How would I judge the CR increase for being able to do that? I know it would increase, especially with the ability being at will... Any rules written somewhere to know? |

Call lightning at will isn't really all that useful, unless your party is in the middle of a desert, with no access to ranged weaponry or means of flying. But given that it can be a wonderful prelude to battle, probably at least cr+1. At will abilities aren't really that powerful for an NPC, they are more useful on a PC. Reason is that given the average duration of a battle(roughly 4 rounds), it really isn't must different from an ability useable say, 3/day. Unless you are able to set up some sort of scenario where it really can use its SLA an unlimited number of times without fear of reprisal from the PCs, the cr increase is actually not all that great. Bottom line - just experiment and assign what you feel is right. :) |
