CR for a Displacer Beast Pack Lord? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-28-07, 03:00 PM The party just fought a Displacer Pack Lord in this week's game, and I'm busy calculating up the XP. It's listed as a CR 12 in the MM, but I don't think that it's nearly that powerful; while the Modual I'm running lists it as a CR 6, which seems way too low. I'm thinking about compromising and calling it a CR 9, but I wanted to get some feedback on it.

05-29-07, 01:15 AM If you use the normal rules for advancing monsters to advance a Displacer Beast to 18 HD (which is what the Pack Lord really is), then you'd get a CR of 9 [+4 for 12 magical beast HD, +1 for size change]. It's pretty strange that the MM-designers ended up with CR 12, really.

Anyway, your intuition seems spot on :)
