| Meepo Sose08-17-04, 05:27 PM | Ok, I'm trying to apply the skeleton template to the Umber Hulk. Can you double-check my application for me? The original Umber Hulk is CR7, has 2 claws and a bite attack, tremorsense and confusing gaze. Once skeletal, he loses the tremorsense and confusing gaze and his claw and bite attacks. His HD go up to D12 and he gains undead traits like DR5/bludgeoning and 2 weaker claw attacks (1d6+6.) According to the template description, though, it looks like the new CR should be 4 for any skeletal creature with 5-8 HD. Is this too low? When I first converted, I forgot to remove the original attacks and used these instead of the weaker 2 claw attacks. My 7-8th level party pretty much got mopped by 3 of these guys so I started wondering if I had calculated the CR wrong. My 2 questions are: 1. What should the CR actually be for a skeletal Umber Hulk? 2. What would be a good CR for a skeletal Umber Hulk that still had all the original attacks? I would like to give them a more appropriate award for winning this combat instead of 360 xp for 8th level chars and 420 for the 7th level folks. BTW, I tried to leave the stats vague enough to not disclose any sensitive WOTC material while still providing enough info for you all to help out. |
