CR for winged thing [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-13-05, 12:54 AM This is just a question concerning the CR of a particular monster (that being Thri-keen) and the adjustment i would need to make by adding the "winged" template to it? I know the statistics for the template and all the bonuses but the CR eludes me because i don't own Savage Species myself.

I am planning on having a great number of thri-keen in a battle with formians (<--spelling? those ant people anyway) and i'm also going to have a whole group of little insect people too (halflings with the insectoid template)

09-13-05, 01:29 AM I believe it's +2 level adjustment but I could be wrong. However, level is not challenge rating, so it might not affect challenge rating the same way as it affects level. If you had an ECL 10 Thri-Kreen and gave it the winged template, it's ECL would go up to 12 (assuming I'm correct on the +2), but it does not mean the CR would go up as much because the winged template does not add HD, which are more directly linked to CR than level adjustment. Better to let someone with more technical knowledge as to how CR works answer that part of the question.

09-13-05, 04:24 AM Winged creature template is CR+1, LA+2... Note that it also increases some ability scores, besides granting a fly speed.
