CR for yellow mold-infested ghast? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-12-04, 07:50 PM My 3.0 DMG says yellow mold is a CR 6. The 3.0 MM says a ghast is CR 3. The chart in the DMG indicates that CR 7 is about right, but I am not sure I am reading it correctly.

Presuming I read it correctly, 6 of these guys should be an EL 12 - unless they are in an Unhallowed area, in which case it becomes EL 13.

The question is, did I do the math right?

I'd say that an encounter with 6 of these critters is more dangerous than most EL 12 encounters, due to the lethal poison. But give it a shot against 4 level 12 PCs, and tell us how many of them die...

08-15-04, 12:22 AM I have to say that the encounter I will initially place this in has an opportunity to bring the ghasts into normal sunlight, rendering the yellow mold dormant. Its not likely, but it could happen.

To further increase the evilness, I am thinking that every time the ghasts are struck (to include force effects), yellow mold spores shoot out. Permanently twisting the ghast's stench to include yellow mold spores - though amusing - would be wrong.

A successful turn that destroys them will result in lingering mold spores for an as-of-yet-undetermined amount of time.

Would undead infested with brown mold be more or less evil?
