| BloodDragon09-20-07, 01:18 PM | I’ve crafted this creature and now I’m curious as to what it’s actual CR is. It certainly packs more special abilities then it will be able to use in it’s life span, though I'm doubtful of the rating the books give me. I’d rather not reveal how I crafted it, I fear admitting to how many templates I used would cause me to die of embarrassment, though I’m sure you can figure it out. Also my players frequent these boards so I’d rather not show them what books I'm using. Please base your opinions solely on the stat block. Although if it is an absolute must, I’ll reveal how I created it. Thank you. Nameless, Large Abberation: 8 HD (5d10+3d8); HP 88; Init: 0; Spd 40 (80 Average Flight); AC: 23, Touch 8, Flat-footed 23; BAB +8; Grp +12; Atk +16; Full Atk Melee: Reach 10' for Large size. +17 (2) Claws, 3d6 + 8 + (4 Vile) + (Energy Drain) +11 Bite, 2d6 + 4 + (4 Vile) +6 Tail, 2d6 + 4 + (4 Vile) Full Atk Range: N/A SA: Improved Grab, Prounce, Disruptive Attack, Soul Strength, Rake: 2 Hind Claws: 3d6 + 8 + 4 Vile (Negative Energy Drain applies?), Breath Weapon 6d8 Half Fire Half Sonic, Reflex (Half), DC: 20 (16 + Con); Soul Blast 3d6 (Single Target), Reflex (Negate) DC: 17 SQ: Damage Reduction 5/+2, Fast Healing 4, 60 Low light vision, Dark Vision 90 ft, Immune to Sleep and Paralysis, Resistance to Acid 5, Hold Breath Feats: Alertness, Weapon Focus (Claws), Improved Energy Drain Stats: 26 Str, 6 Dex, 18 Con, 8 Int, 10 Wis, 15 Cha Saves: Fort: 10, Reflex: 5, Will: 7 80 Undecided Skill points Soul Strength: On a successful energy drain Nameless gains a +4 Enchantment to its strength. Improved Energy Drain Whenever you bestow a negative level upon a creature you gain a +1 bonus on skill checks, ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws for 1 hour. I plan to equip it with some light armour later to up it’s AC but lets see the basic stats first. Now for the propose of the encounter there is a long time debate about multiply attacks with energy drain stacking multiply times. For the argument of this creature it can only bestow 1 negative level on another creature per turn, but it may affect as many creatures as it can hit. If this creature survives the inital encounter I plan on the PCs meeting up with it one more time before they finally defeat it. The Final CR comes out to 14. Although even with the DR and fast healing I'm doubtful if this is right due to his low ability scores and low saving throws. What would you rate this creature’s CR? |
| JarionSilverblades09-20-07, 08:22 PM | A couple Questions. Why does it have d8 and d10 racial Hit Dice? What type of Sub-types does it have? Doesn’t Fast Healing usually come in 5 or 10? At only 88hp and DCs 20, do you really think it could stand up to 4 level 14 Characters? Could you also post a little more info on this monster, like it's combat tactics. |

Racial Levels and Class levels. 4 Racial (d10), 1 Fighter (d10), 3 Soul Eater(d8) Subtypes? ... None actually. Aberration is it, due to the final outcome of templates oddly enough. Mabye an [Evil] Subtype. Fast Healing is ½ this creature HD so 4 is correct. I had no idea it normally came in 5’s or 10’s. At only 88hp and DCs 20, do you really think it could stand up to 4 level 14 Characters? I honestly have no idea. Which is why I’m asking the experts. At 88 HP compared to a supposed CR of 14, that seems insanely low. A half thought out 14th level fighter could probably tackle it solo with a few good hits. Which is why I think the CR should be lower then what the books (MMI & DMG) is telling me. Mabye closer to CR 10? As for tactics the creature isn’t entirely finished yet. Pounce, 4 attacks, and rake with level drains is a deadly combination in my mind but aside from that I was thinking of tacking on a Fly-by attack, or perhaps the Spell Drain feat from Libras Mortus and turning the PCs own spells upon them. What would you suggest? |
