CR of Planetouched with PC class levels? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-28-04, 02:36 PM What's CR for Planetouched with PC class levels. They are LA +1, but the MM isn't very consistent about converting that to CR. Svirfneblin (LA +3), Drow (LA +2), Githzerai and githyanki (LA +2) and Duergar (LA +1) all have CR equal to NPC class levels or PC class levels +1, while the MM makes no statement about CR for Hobgoblins, Merfolk, or Planetouched, all LA +1 and listed with CR 1/2 as 1st-level warriors (whereas the other races I mentioned had a 1st-level warrior example as CR 1). Does this mean that they are CR equal to PC class levels, just like LA +0 races, which are also given with 1st-level warriors being CR 1/2 (except for kobolds at CR 1/4, but they're kobolds)? Basically, do Planetouched and some other LA +1 races ignore that LA for NPCs (just like drow, gith, and svirfnebli ignore some of their LA)?

12-28-04, 04:21 PM LA and CR have nothing to do with each other.

they measure differnt things... a hobgoblin warrior is realy nopticably more difficult to defeat in a single melee then a human one, howver it has other advantages that make it more useful to a player over the course of an entire adventure or campaign, theus the CR is the same as an equivilent level humans, while the LA is higher.

Plane touched are the same way.

12-28-04, 05:18 PM Thanks, that's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some rule I was missing somewhere about what to do with LA vs CR when it's not specified in the book.
