created monster special ability. . . [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-04-06, 09:39 PM I'm building a monster, and theres a special trait that i was thinking about giving it. Basically the monster is a supposed the product some hideous and insane breeding of a bunch of other animals. Some of the animals are physically impossible to breed normally so the creator used magical forces to do the job. So i used the templates for the magical beast, since magic was invovled in its creation.
However, I also want the creature to have an animal heritage evident in its traits and abilities. So the trait i'm considering creating for it is something that would have it effect as an animal as for the hold animal and the like. Also it would become an opition for the druids in the party for Wild Shape, since i believe they have to see it or know about its basic appearance to use the ability.
I was just wondering about your opinions, or if there is a better way to build the creature, now keep in mind its meant to be brawler and has no special abilities, or special attacks beyond pounce and rend , thankyou.

Basicaly, some insane wizard wanted a creature, so he bred a whole bunch of different animals together using magic, am I right?
Well, if thats what happened, then I think the creature would either be a magical beast or an aberation (I myself lean towards the former, but its your call). Either way, a druid can't wild shape into it.

only its not really a wizard, but yeah about right.
well i was thinking of adding kind of a trait, like a Special quality, that makes it be effect by spells as an animal, similar to the Half-Orc's Orc Blood special quality. Its just something to make it a little more interesting for the players. but if it won't work that way or clash in some basic way with the magical beast type that i've used, then i won't.
but yeah thanks, now that i think about it would have to be a pure animal for the wild shape.
