Createing a Lich [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-09-06, 10:20 AM Does anyone have some information on how a lich is created? like what objects are needed and what enchantments and such?

07-09-06, 08:10 PM As I recall, the second edition monster manual had something about a potion that must be drunk. You need to be able to cast certain spells (create undead and cone of cold were two of them), and you need to have a phylactery ready.

Since the process of becoming a lich is supposed to be evil, maybe it requires the sacrifice of an intelligent being, like in Harry Potter.

07-09-06, 11:17 PM In 3.0 and 3.5, there are no objects required beyond the creation of the phylactery. Like all other magic items, the object is assumed to require various mystical but unnamed ingredients.

In earlier additions, there was a lengthy list of required materials, which included various poisons, gems, etc.
