Mercurius 07-14-05, 01:37 PM	I'm currenty attempting to create a villainous NPC necromancer who has transformed himself into a Boneclaw from the MMIII. I'm looking this over, but not entirely sure what to do about the Boneclaw's 10 hit dice as well as its feats and, especially, its stat mods. A quick glance at its stats and I see it has an effective +10 STR, +8 DEX, +4 INT, +4 WIS, and +8 CHA. I'm not sure if I've missed something or not, but if you guys have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Hochi-min trail 07-14-05, 01:52 PM	Well, you can go about it two ways: 1. he transforms himself completely to a boneclaw, losing HD for the monster's HD. 2. He semi-transforms himself to a boneclaw (I'm not sure how much this is RAW), and only changes his physical attributes. Whatever he does, he doesn't add the physical abilities to his own, but switches them. However, what i am not that sure of is if he gets the average abilities or an elite array, which means he can roll the dice and add the bonuses of the "race" to his new scores.
Mercurius 07-14-05, 02:26 PM	Scary thing is that if I followed the advancement rules in the MM3.5, I'd just add all the sorcerer levels to this guy after rolling (or using adjusted) stats and each sorcerer level up to the starting hit dice would add only 1/2 a CR. I'd wind up with a CR 9 boneclaw with 8th level necromancy spellcasting and a Charisma in the 20s... I've never really done something this complicated and crazy before...

Grundax 07-15-05, 08:43 PM	I guess it depends how strong you want him to be. I'd either add the boneclaw hit dice to and ablities to his starting ones or I'd mix the two. For mixing them I'd change ten levels (if you already have the non boneclaw NPC stats) for the undead hitdice and add the boneclaw stat bonuses to his scores. I'd also let the 10 undead HD count toward a spell casting class so he doesn't actually loose spells.
