| Inu-vete08-31-04, 10:52 AM | I was planning a new campaign the other day and was looking for a monster that would work suitably for my.."plans". Well i either could not find/lack the resources to find the monster i want, so i came up with the idea of creating my own monster. I looked for rules in my DM and monster manuals but couldnt find anything to help me create this monster. So could someone tell me the rules for creating your own monster, or if there are none could you give me ideas/advice for making my own monsters? Hey any help would be appreciated :D |
| masterofmayhem08-31-04, 01:30 PM | Go to page 295 of the 3.5 Monster Manual. It's Chapter 5: Making Monsters. It has 7 pages on making monsters, with more pages on improving the pre-made monsters (giving them HD, levels, feats, etc.). That's probably what you're looking for. I don't know about 3.0, though. |
| Black Jack Davey08-31-04, 01:39 PM | There was an article in Dragon shortly after 3.0 came out about monster creation. It had just about everything you could possibly need for monster creation, along with some nifty artwork and a nice layout. After a while, they released that article (along with a couple of adventures and some other things) on a disc that came with an issue of the magazines. Of course that PDF version eventually found it's way to the internet. It is no longer perfect, but it is VERY useful and I still use it. I'm sure someone will come up with a link to it for you. |
| Seraph of Babel08-31-04, 01:44 PM | The article BJD mentioned is available here (http://www.enworld.org/cc/downloads/files/monster_article.pdf) in pdf format. As mentioned, it's v3.0, so you'd have to know what has been changed in v3.5. I have a .xls file which I used to convert monsters, containing most of the info in MM with vlookup xls function, PM me if you're interested. |
| Black Jack Davey08-31-04, 02:16 PM | That's the one. I'd highly recomend using that. I used that article to create the first draft of the Lesser Servant of Syn (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=298444). After creating your monster, you can put it up here and I'm sure people would be willing to check it for you. |
