| willxiv12-06-05, 10:23 PM | When a monster's template gives it a skill point formula to calculate its skill point total, do they also receive the full skill point totals from having a level in a character class? Follow this example: A Male Gnoll Fighter 1 with 10 Intelligence (+0 Int Modifier): He initially receives skill points due to his humanoid levels (2 HD), following the formula: 5 x (2 + Int Mod) or 5 x (2 + 0) = 10 skill points Now we add in the fact that he's a level 1 Fighter, and here's my question: Just as a Human Fighter 1 would gain an initial skill point total of 4 x (2 + Int Mod) during his creation, does a Gnoll Fighter 1 also use the formula for initial skill points as a level 1 Fighter and add it to the initial skill points for having humanoid levels - OR - does a Gnoll Fighter 1 use his initial humanoid skill point formula and ONLY add Fighter "skill points at each additional level?" At the risk of being exaustive, answer this simple A or B question: Which of the following two formulas does a Gnoll Fighter 1 use to figure his skill point total: A. Gnoll humanoid skill points 5 x (2 + Int Mod) + Fighter initial skill points 4 x (2 + Int Mod) B. Gnoll humanoid skill points 5 x (2 + Int Mod) + Fighter additional level points 2 + Int Mod Thanks for your input! |

| The Abominable Darkling12-07-05, 12:32 PM | It is B. All characters (monstrous or not) get quadruple skill points for their first hit die. That's why the gnoll's humanoid levels give it 5 x (2 + Int mod) instead of just 2 x (2 + Int mod). A creature with racial hit dice does not gain this benefit a second time when it takes a class level. |
