Help creating my themed summoning list (plants)

I’m playing a shifter druid level 12 and as a big anime fan that I am, trying to create a themed summoning list based on plants (using summon monster variant p.136 UA) just like kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho summons his demonic plants.

I’ve made a list from all monster with plant type but I’m having a difficult time adding the monsters in the appropriate summon spell level, so that is why I’m asking CO Boards help.

-1 I have the feat greenbound so it doesn’t matter if a level stays without a plant monster because than I can summon an animal that will be a plant.

-2 This list doesn’t include Heroes of Horror, Magic of Incarnum, Magic of Eberron. I don’t have them.

Thanks for helping !!!!

Try using the Woodling and Wood Elemental templates (from MMIII and MotP, respectively) to expand your options.

You still alive? I got a few results, so here it goes:

First, the ironmaw and the plague brush are beyond summoning, at 15 and 17 CR respectively they would unbalance the game.

Night twists are CR 12, you could probably squeeze that one in at summon IX, but it would be a bit of a stretch. I only remember one or two CR 12s on there, the rest were CR11.

Sentinels are CR 9, just find where the roc is and replace, I believe it was VIII or VII.

Tendriculos are pretty safe to put at VI.

Dread blossom Swarm are CR 6, but im kinda hesitant about putting a swarm in there. If your DM says yea, then VI is good.

Vine Horror are a paltry CR 4, So.... IV

Porcupine cactus are CR1, I dont see them fit for summoning.

Shambling mounds are summoned with another druid spell.

The woodling template is identical to the CR adjustment for fiendish and celestial templates. Any creature on the summon monster list that is a member of the aformentioned templates may be traded equally across lists.

Woodwoad are CR 4, could probably go in IV (at low lvls, CR and spell lvl trade pretty even)

I hope this helps.

Thanks scienceman47 you really helped.

I want this list to be balanced, don't want it to be overpowered.

Totally agree

Night twists are CR 12, you could probably squeeze that one in at summon IX, but it would be a bit of a stretch. I only remember one or two CR 12s on there, the rest were CR11.

agree, i was going to let it out, but besides this CR 12 and 11 monsters, we have unicorn celestial charger CR 13, so i'd figured it will be ok to put at summon IX

Sentinels are CR 9, just find where the roc is and replace, I believe it was VIII or VII. Sentinels are CR 9, just find where the roc is and replace, I believe it was VIII or VII.
Tendriculos are pretty safe to put at VI.

Agree with both, for the sentinel it would fit right at summon VII

Vine Horror are a paltry CR 4, So.... IV
Porcupine cactus are CR1, I dont see them fit for summoning.
Woodwoad are CR 4.

I discarded this three

Dread blossom Swarm are CR 6, but im kinda hesitant about putting a swarm in there. If your DM says yea, then VI is good.

This is my personal favorite, i'd put at Summon VI as well. I've already gave up dragon wild shape cause i think it's overpower so let's say i have this credit with my DM. But can you explain why do you think a swarm would be trouble ?

As for the woodling template i won't need it, greenbound make the job.

Other creatures i will not use them, but i still ned help to fit these creatures in the right summon spell

Monster Manual I
Assassin vine (p.20) II or III
Shrieker (p.113) II or III
Treant (p.244) VI

Monster Manual II
Greenvise (p.120) VIII
Needlefolk (p.158) I or II
Red Sundew (p.179) VII or VIII
Twig BLight (p.197) I

Sandstorm
Iron Thorn (p.166) VI or VII

Dark Tree (p.62, Shining South) VII

Yellow Musk Creeper (Fiend Folio p.190) (summon IV)
i think this creature is too powerful to summon IV(as estated in the book) guess V would be better.

I've put the number that i suppose to be right, can you give me a hand scienceman47 ?

Thanks Again !!!!! :D

Take the dread blossom swarm. I think you will be okay. Usually they do not have swarms as summons, but it shouldnt be harmful. And it would be very cool.

I will look at the ones that I missed. But I have no access to MMII. You will need the help of someone else for that.

Now then, how are you gonna get those crazy giant venus fly trap things that Kurama summoned when he fought the bomb guy?

Actually those things didn't fly, they were stuck on the ground.

Fiend Folio Yellow musk creeper, they are huge (so have a nice reach), and the extract intelligence ability fits nice the concept, or any plant creature that can swallow. The trap concept can't be done i guess.

The bomb guy name is Karasu, that episode is the best kurama's fight.

I meant Venus FlyTrap, like the things that eat flies. But the idea got across.

Vê o que tu acha da lista Gordo. Quando tiver tempo dá uma olhada e depois nós discutimos.

Tem várias criaturas que eu descartei umas por não terem nada a ver com o conceito e outras por terem CR muito alto. :D

Hmmm.. I once got an idea for a plant based character not much unlike that.. except without the summonings (something i might change soon).. Yet for a future character i might just draw some inspiration on that list. very helpfull it is.. ;)

I wonder if you´re also planning on become plant-like.. If so, dragon wildshape might still be interesting... if you devise a plant-dragon (using the template) and guessing what kind of breath weapon it could have (verdigis tsunami comes to mind..)

I'm still working on the list, i've got talk to my DM to make this list balanced and playable.

The plant-dragon thing is nice but don't fits in the concept i want. Just the summons and some spells are plant like.

AUAHUAh actually that's portuguese, it's similar to hispanic but not that much.

It was just a message to my DM, that lazy-fat-bastard haven't done his homework helping me out creating the list.

So scienceman47 did you looked at the ones you missed ? i'm still in need of help ;)
