Creature Creation Think-Tank: What scares you? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-15-05, 01:10 AM The most memorable monsters are the creatures that play on our fears. What scares you? I'm hoping that this thread could provide inspiration for DM's to create new creatures.

I'll go first:

I'm scared to death of anything that is capable of moving without me being able to follow it. One example is a cockroach. Besides being a cockroach, the little monsters can accelerate too quick, can move too fast, and some can fly. I CAN'T KEEP A TAB ON WHERE IT IS!!! :gah:

So what are you afraid of?

i hate infesters creatures that infest you with mind or body warping mutations or thier own young and do so in such a way that when you heal there is no trace

I hate slaad and undead spawners

10-15-05, 09:54 PM My biggest little thing is being lost. Makes me lose it. A monster that misleads or muddles trails (like a will-o-wisp) would be my undoing.

10-16-05, 05:52 AM I'm fascinated by them. I keep scorpions and tarantulas in the house. I'm not scared of spiders or beetles or bees or wasps.

However...I am absolutely repulsed and horrified by ticks. I contracted Rocky mountain spotted fever when I was 11 (from a tick at summer camp), and I cannot bear the notion of having one on me, near me, within sight of me--let alone having one attached to me. Eeugh.

10-16-05, 06:34 AM I personally am Trypanophobic - needles reak me out, and the thought of stuff moving under my skin is particularly freaky, so i'd say swarm damage would freak me, as would knowing i've been implanted by a xill or red slaad.

Though i have to say if i knew illithids were coming, i'd blow my brains out. I've had an interesting life and i have an unusual way of looking at things. I'd be a tasty meal indeed. I dare say i'd find my way to the performance eating arena.
I'm not bragging, i know i've got an odd mind.

Wonder what illithids would do with a couch potato? find it bland?

still, creating something, i'd want a golem or a nimblewright (MMII). Nimblewrights are intelligent constructs which cna use disguise + alter self at will, and have built-in rapiers. 12-20 crit range, crits do normal damage and knock opponent prone.

Being intelligent is useful, personality makes them more entertaining. Also they speak. CR 7. I want one.
