Hope this is the right place for this, I don't frequent the forums much.
So my roommates and I had an idea, hope you get it. So if you get the joke, all criticisms and opinions would be helpful.

This small cave demon has massive claws that look like they could rip armor apart.

The Kenyan Mangrove Crab is a small, gray or tan crab. It is usually found hiding under a rock waiting for prey to get close enough to attack. It attacks everything it encounters, regardless of size.

Combat
The Kenyan Mangrove Crab stays hidden until just before its prey comes within reach. It comes out of hiding, paralyzing its opponent with its frightful presense, then viciously attacking. It usually targets its enemy's eyes, blinding it to make further combat easier.
Frightful Presence: As with dragons, the KMC can frighten opponents with its mere presence. See the entry for dragons.
Oli: 1d6 rounds after it enters combat, the KMC uses Ghost Sounds (as the spell) as a spell-like ability. All creatures caught within 60 ft. must make a Will save, DC 17, or be confused for 1d6 rounds. The save DC is charisma based.
Rend Armor: If the KMC hits with both claw attacks, it pulls apart any armor worn by its foe. This attack deals 4d6+8 points of damage to the opponent’s armor. Creatures not wearing armor are unaffected by this special attack. Armor reduced to 0 hit points is destroyed. Damaged armor may be repaired with a successful Craft (armorsmithing) check.

Bah, only armor? Look at those massive claws! It could rip a tank apart!

It's DR should be 10/bludgeoning. After all, it is very hard to "just stab it!"

Trying to keep it in context. Apparatus of Kwalish maybe?

Eh, I figured it wouldn’t have any particular resistance to magic. And I figure, it’s got that tough shell, hitting it at all wouldn’t do much…
Hmmm….This requires consideration.
Also, your SN seems familiar. I may know what it’s from, I may not… PM me about it if you get the chance.

Also, I think I'll lower its base speed. Devilishly dodgy it was, but I don't recall it moving that fast otherwise...

Also, is there a specific ability that actually would allow it to rip armor apart? I can't think of anything off the top of my head...Nor do I imagine it needs to. This thing is hard enough: I actually want it to be capable of being beaten at a high enough (non-epic) level.

That's what its shatter ability is for.

I think it needs a wider threat range on those claws.

And some sort of way to enter your square, but if you miss or fail to bypass its DR on your AoO, you damage yourself.

Then you can add an aura where all attempts at making long range or divine communication are instead met with

The problem with range is that it's a diminutive creature. It's hard to give it any kind of range.

As for damaging yourself, we were thinking about that, but what are the rules about one creature climbing on top of another? Are there rules for that?

It can already do something like that. It makes ghost sounds that cause confusion.

no no, I mean it should threaten a critical hit on a roll lower than 20, like 18-20 or something.

If not, make something up. :)

The HD need to be upped to d8s, that's animal HD.

I disagree with Strucking. Give it Augmented critical instead. 18-20x3.

On entering the square...

I'd make it the same as initiative a grapple on a crature three or more sizes bigger than you.

ah. We made it 19-20/x2, but apparently I forgot to put it down here. And I figured 18-20/x3 would make it just a smidge over-powered.

As for HD, i figured d8 would be a bit too much...I suppose I could just lower its HD, but I dunno...5d8+30? Hmm....
But I guess if that's the standard I should go with that.

Since you don't have a CR, there's no such thing as over or under powered. And besides, it wouldn't change much, it just hurst a little more.

I think you should give each pincer a chance to cut its opponent’s head off. After all, what’s more terrifying than a crab with vorpal pincers?

The Beblith demon (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/demon.htm#bebilith)has the ability to tear armor.

Rend Armor (Ex)
If a bebilith hits with both claw attacks, it pulls apart any armor worn by its foe. This attack deals 4d6+18 points of damage to the opponent’s armor. Creatures not wearing armor are unaffected by this special attack. Armor reduced to 0 hit points is destroyed. Damaged armor may be repaired with a successful Craft (armorsmithing) check. I would just give it Improved Sunder as a bonus feat, instead of the Shatter ability you've listed.
