Its mouth is filled with pointed teeth, and its fingers are each tipped with a large talon. Sludge Lurkers are thin creatures that dwell in damp underground regions such as sewers or caverns, waiting to ambush potential food in the darkness they're so suited for. A sludge lurker stands a little over six feet, with deceptively thin limbs. They have tough, rubbery skin which resists most weaponry surprisingly well, and their claws are quick and vicious. Sludge lurkers speak goblin. Some may speak halting common, though they aren't remarkably intelligent, so the likelihood is slim. COMBAT They generally strike quickly and in darkness, trying to overwhelm their prey with a quick attack. If this fails, and the tide turns against them, they will run. Leaders generally lead their followers into battle, though if they become wounded, they have no objection to falling back and allowing others to cover them while they drink potions or retreat. Any great display of magic will likely spook the sludge lurkers, and send them running. SLUDGE LURKER SOCIETY There's not much to say about their society. Their dens are usually large chambers strewn about with rags and treasures, and they spend most of their time slinking through the dark in search of food. The men do most of the hunting, and the women look after the children. These creatures consider humanoids a delicacy, and they rarely cook anything, preferring to eat raw meat. Any thoughts? |

| MortalPlague10-13-04, 03:45 AM | I set it on a group of L3 characters, 4-5 of them, and the fight was quite challenging. Their biggest problem was that the dice seemed to be against them, as every damage roll they made was a one or two. Other than that, they managed to dispatch the four creatures pretty decently. It was a challenging encounter primarily because they PCs didn't know what they were and the dice were falling poorly. |

These things are way better than gnolls, another ECL 3 race. |
