I'm making a few custom monsters for my personalized setting, which is slowly drawing towards the "Stick a fork in it, it's done" phase. These are a few of them, one based off of a rather popular show by Buena Vista and aired on Toon Disney. (Note: Just to clarify, the planet on which my campaign is set is named "Ur," thus the name "Urnian" gargoyles; no relation to the Ur Priest from the Book of Vile Darkness)

Any critcism at all is welcome.

EDIT: I'm building a cheap little website to house all of my stuff in a more organized fashion. It's not up yet, but at least I've got the Bestiary section working. Feel free to poke around.

Your gargoyle reminds me of the cartoon, I like it. Is it a monstrous humanoid, it should be.

As for the Unborn, they are something that needs looking at. I'm kinda curious as to how people lose quickly if you throw it at a party of lv18 PCs. I could see it wiped out within a few rounds. However, with the spellcasting ability of a sor12, the average Unborn is a tough one. Still, how does it live so long? I hate to say it, but I think my players could put your Unborn down pretty quick.

Consider giving your Unborn a common spell-list, spells that any given Unborn would probably know. Still, it surprises me that someone could fall too quickly to it. Lemme think about it... DC 10 +6 (highest spell level) +5 (Cha bonus) +1 (feat) = 22. Average good bonus... save +11 (base) +4 (abil bonus) +2 (likely resistance) = +17. Within a given save, the character would likely make it. No big death spells, some interesting possibilities.

Your Unborn seem to be in need of some serious playtesting. I'll work on it, but I think they are in some serious cr*p. (A party of my lv6 characters, unless the Unborn can kill them really quick, would kill the Unborn in about 4 rounds.)

I like it so much, I'll playtest your Unborn a few times to see how it turns out. I might even use it in my campaign... (hello new Far Realm monster...).

The gargoyle is in no way CR 3, I'd say CR 1. Also, separating movement speeds like that is pointless, you might as well give them a Hop On One Leg speed, or assume they'll always move to the best of their ability and give them 40'. Its Fortitude save is omitted.

LA depends on the healing ability, which needs a lot of clarification. Does it really act as a heal spell or does it just cure all hit point damage? There's a big difference. Does it actually cure ability score drain which nothing other than a restoration spell can restore? If not, you may be thinking of ability damage and if so it can't act as a heal spell, which automacially cures all ability damage.

LA for a healing ability that just cures hit point damage and accelerates ability damage recovery sounds like +2.

LA for a healing ability that restores HP, ability drain and purges diseases is more along the lines of +6.

Xychotic is right about the unborn, in combat it'll be a fine paste after a single round with opponents 10 levels below its CR. Either cut its caster level and CR in half or double everything else.

Well, as I said the playtesting was not consistent. I tried it with a variety of parties, and I had meant to leave off the CR in the final version, but I guess I overlooked it. I think it might be the HTML that messed up and didn't save correctly, because the Urnian Gargoyle's Fortitude save is missing as well.

I'd be honored, use them as you see fit. :)

I personally thought that CR 1 was too little, but I see where you are coming from. Also, gargoyles come in two varieties (quadrupedal and bipedal), so I did not "separate" their movement speeds. While bipedal gargoyles have the ability to walk on all fours, there are some that do not have that choice.

My apologies if these seem a little congested, they were originally written for 3.0 rules and my crack team of 3.5 translators (a guy with severe ADD and myself) obviously made a few mistakes.

70+ views and only 2 people have replied? Surely my creations can't be all that bad. If they are, at least tell me so. :P

concerning your Unborn....

Aside from the description there isn't anything new there that couldn't be taken from the Phaerimm (Monsters of Faerun Compendium). Then you just have to tweak it a little and add your own description and voila.... Unborn!

It'll give you a great starting place with challenge ratings built in.....

I looked at the Phaerimm, but they don't seem to be quite what I was shooting for. Besides, I've heard it's not as accurate to test monster CRs versus other monster CRs.

This is also a bump to inform you all of my new webpage where my monsters are being housed!
