Above the waist, it appears as a upright-standing cat, albeit with shorter paws, resting in front of it's body, much like a ferret or weasel. Below the best is the squitten's most disturbing feature; a mass of eight translucent tentacles, which keep the creature standing. Their paws are weak, but can be used to manipulate objects, as can their tentacles. At first glance, a squitten may appear to be a mutant hybrid of a housecat and a mollusk. However, a squitten is actually an admixture of several creatures, including a cat, a squid, a ferret, and an eel. Combat Squittens can attack with half of their eight tentacles at no penalty, even if they move or charge during the round. They avoid combat if they can, attempting to paralyze their foe, then make their escape. Paralytic Touch (Ex) As a standard action, a squitten can deliver a electrical shock capable of immobilizing a creature. The attack deals 2d6 electrical damage. In addition, any creature subject to this attack must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + the damage dealt) or become paralyzed for 1d4 rounds. A creatures that fails this save is instead stunned for 1d2 rounds. This ability is a touch attack that provokes attacks of opportunity. Skills Squitten have a +4 racial bonus on Hide and Move Silently checks and a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks. They use their Dexterity modifier instead of their Strength modifier for Climb and Swim checks. A squitten has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line -------------------------------------------------------- SQUITTEN CHEF (1ST LEVEL EXPERT) Tiny Aberration Hit Dice: 1d8+2 plus 2d10+4 plus 1d6+2 (26 hp) Initiative: +3 Speed: 20 ft. They also have a keen scent of smell and taste, making their dishes all the more splendid. Combat Squittens can attack with half of their eight tentacles at no penalty, even if they move or charge during the round. In the case of the squitten chef, this ability also applies to his cleavers (or any other light weapon he wields in his tentacles). Paralytic Touch (Ex) As a standard action, a squitten can deliver a electrical shock capable of immobilizing a creature. The attack deals 2d6 electrical damage. | Insane Pixie08-10-06, 10:20 PM | Uuuh... Abberation, not Animal. It's definately not an animal. Well, I was going to make it an Abberation, but the Abberation description describes an Abberation as something you wouldn't see in nature. The Beast type, which would of fit this perfectly, was nixed in the update from 3.0. I decided on animal because I didn't see it as being supernatural. Sure, it was a mix of parts, but that's just gene-splicers (mages) at work. I didn't see the paralytic touch ability as too far from something you might see in an electric eel's stat block (delivering 500-600 volts). But I will make it an Abberation, because I wanted to in the first place. |
| MrAdam08-11-06, 01:02 PM | Its very bizarre and Lovecraftian. I like it alot (tho it would make a better aberation) and best of all its in good old legible, reliable 3.5 style (not that new "improved" statblock abomination, FIE ON IT, FIE I SAY!!) |

And, well, I had to make it in the old format, or the post would be ignored. ;) |
| ChimericPhase08-12-06, 04:00 AM | the Aberration type is iffy at best. Feasibly there are monsters in the manual that could be biologically plausible that are aberrations, and magical beasts that are bizarre enough to pass for aberrations. ---- Consider a normal swamp dwelling creature with a heavy body, long neck and large head and whippy tail with a spiny knob on the end. It's claim to fame is a mere two magical abilities, both are gaze attacks. Magical beast, right? Wrong. Aberration. Catoblepas, pg 41 MMII ---- Three armed giant - it's just that simple. Giant? No. Monsterous humanoid maybe - it is a humanoid with unusual anatomy per the very description of monsterous humanoid in the MM. No. Aberration. Athach, pg 21 MM Fine then, I have a four armed giant! Aberration!! Hahah, nope wrong again! Geriviar. Giant. MM3 ---- An ill tempered manta ray. Animal? Magical Beast? No. Aberration. Ixitxachitl pg129 MMII ---- Giant angry monkeys that disguise themselves as cuddly cute things with the use of polymorph? Definately Magical Beast, right? Aberration. Julajimus pg 133 MMII ---- Giant spider with no magical abilities? Vermin, right? Nope. Harpoon spider. Aberration. pg 81 MMIII ---- Maybe the six legged tentacled predator that isn't were it ought to be except when it wants to be. With the above examples we ought to hitting lucky here. I'm betting aberration Mwaha! Displacer Beast, Magical Beast, MM ---- Oookay, fine. We'll take it a step further. A flying squid head with cthulu-esque tentacles, bat-like wings and no body whatsoever? Well, there's that other familiar floating head we know . . so must be a aberration right? Mooncalf. Magical Beast. MMII ---- Human torso with the body of a horse: Monsterous humanoid Human torso with the body of a spider: Aberration Monkey torso with the body of a spider: Monsterous humanoid :surrender Confused yet? Good. You should be. |
| Insane Pixie08-12-06, 12:20 PM | Human torso with the body of a horse: Monsterous humanoid No spell-like abilities. Human torso with the body of a spider: Aberration Spell-like abilities. Monkey torso with the body of a spider: Monsterous humanoid Presumably no spell-like abilities. Confused yet? Good. You should be. No, but I think you might be. |
| ChimericPhase08-13-06, 09:31 PM | Edit: moved to it's own thread. BTW: The Squitten is awesome! Strangely, when I first read the Monster name, I thought you were making kitten-squirrel hybrids (try googling the word "squitten") http://www.naiveamoeba.co.uk/gallery/still_images/squitten.jpg |

And, I read your post, pre-edit. I've got to hand it to you that you made an extremely valid point. (I googled squitten before making it too, but I couldn't think of a better name, so it kind of stuck.) |
