Well, my homebrew pretty much demands a new set of Arch-Dukes, so I'll use this thread to fine tune them. Demons and Devils are refered to as Daemons in my campaign setting, and the most powerful are refered to as the Daemon Gods, to explain the title.

I'll post some flavor text for each so you guys can help with the kind of stats and special abilities they might have. I'm not sure how many there will be yet, but I'll start with Hecate. (All of the Arch-Daemons in the campaign setting are based on a specific mythology, I can't remember which one but it was common among witches back when they were being publicly "punished")

Challenge Rating: ??? (Help Please, I'm aiming for 35-40ish so any advice is greatly appreciated)
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
*Mazoria is the name of the world, the skill is basically just the general history/geography of Mazoria

(I haven't included a climate or organization section because in my campaign she's been trapped inside a mountain for over 4000 years...)

Hecate (Heck-a-tee) apears as a tall, slim, terrifyingly beautiful woman with dark hair and pale, greyed skin. She is often refered to as "the Lady of the Night". She is the most powerful of the Daemons and, before the Daemon Gods were sealed away she routinely incited wars and world shaking battles between the other Daemon Gods, once even starting a war between all of the other Daemon Gods and herself (she somehow had them on even footing).

Hectate counts the Daemon Gods Ashtaroth as an ally, while she is rivals with Cernunnos, Guland, Lillith (Lilitu) and Aradia.

When she was known to the rest of the world (the Daemon Gods are now thought of as an obscure myth) she was accosiated with the moon, lycanthropes, vampires, black magic and chaos. (Most of my books arn't here so I'm not entirely sure what else should go here, I'll post more flavor text later)

Combat:
Hecate makes full use of tactics and her spell-like abillities. She rarely makes use of her wild shape unless trying to follow a person without their knowledge. When the battle closes to melee however Hecate is not afraid to use her trident to strike her foes down.
Fear Aura:
As a free action Hecate can produce a fear affect. This ability functions as the spell fear (caster level 20th) except it effects all creatures in 30 ft.
Spell Like Abilities:
Hecate may cast the following spells as though she were a 25th level wizard, Hecate may also use meta-magic feats to augment them: At will: Blasphemy, Deeper Darkness, Desecrate, Detect Good/Evil/Law/Chaos/Magic, Dispel Good, Dimensional Anchor, Greater Dispelling, Hold Person, Magic Circle Against Good, Read Magic, Telekinesis, Teleport Without Error, Tongues, Unhallow, Unholy Aura, Unholy Blight, Calm Emotions. 5/day: Anti-Magic Field, Charm Person Mass, Hold Person Mass, Control Weather, 3/day: Power Word Blind, Power Word Kill, Imprison Soul, Mordenkainens Disjunction, Energy Drain, 1/day: Wish
Trackless Step:
As the Ranger ability of the same name.
[B]Assume Form:[B]
At will, as a move equivalent action, Hecate may turn into any creature, albeit the creature she turns into will have slight changes to its appearance. The creature will always have black hair, pale sickly skin, and grey or red eyes, often the creature is gaunt. If Hecate chooses to turn into an animal the creature always has black fur/feathers/scales/whatever.

Ah then historically then that'd be... rarely to never? The modern day myth of massive 'witch' persecutions is laughable since the utter majority of such was based more on personal grudges, strife among Xtian sects, economic conflict, etc. Being generous, perhaps 1% of 1% of those killed were actually practicing some actual occult or at least non Xtian beliefs. The modern neo-pagan community is wantonly deluded over the historical facts of this.

Okay... I don't really care whether or not that sentence of my post was accurate or not as it had virtually nothing to do with the rest of it, besides letting you know what religion its based on.

Any actual comments on the post would be wonderful.

You don't need to stat the Gods of your world unless you are planning on having your PCs fight them.

If you are planning on having your PCs fight a God, reconsider.

Their not actually gods, their just the most powerful thing to have roamed the planet in over 40 000 years so they are known as the Daemon Gods, the gods in the setting are beyond mortals, but haven't been active in the world for a LOOOOONG time (over 100 000 years). (And if you didn't notice, Hecate does not have a divine ranking, so she is not a god in any sense.)

The PCs may very well end up fighting the Daemon Gods.

Uh, but you are 'aiming' for CR 35+

That's gonna eat any PC.

Oh, you are gonna run Ep - Ick

Too ridiculous for my blood. Have fun. ;)

Actually, while I do plan on running Epic, I doubt the PCs will get to a point where they can challenge Hecate but they will likely witness the resurection of many of the weaker Daemon Gods.

Thanks so much for your oh so wise, insight on the subject, but I'd really like to get some help with this, if you haven't got anything to say other than "I hate epic" then please just leave the thread alone, its all a matter of preference, after all.

What are you guys crying about? The man needs help...
If you don't have a solution or at least any suggestions, why don't you just shut up?!

If he wants to run an epic level campaign, that's his choice!
Don't ridicule him!!

Oh wait... no it isn't. :)

Remember people, saying 'Epic sucks' isn't constructive criticism.
Constructive Criticism Def. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=constructive%20criticism)
Main Entry: constructive criticism
Function: noun
Definition: criticism or advice that is useful and intended to help or improve something, often with an offer of possible solutions

Suggestions:
1) She's mentioned as being able to incite wars between Daemon Gods. I'd give her the ability to use either Charm/Dominate Monster at will (either works...). Maybe a charming gaze of some kind...
2) Her abilities seem kind of... slim. Does Wild Shape really fit in with the concept? Perhaps the ability to assume any form would work better (with certain constraints, of course).
3) A few Epic SLA's probably wouldn't be out of the question either. If the 'official' WotC Archfiends were ever updated to 'true' epic, then they'd undoubtedly have some Epic SLA's as well.

Thank you very much.

I wanted to have her just be really conniving and plotting, being that she's the most powerful being in existence (Other then her Angelic counterpart and the gods) her random shifting allegiances and random blowing up of things would make that possible.

About Wild Shape: People believed her followers to be able to change into animals. But since she is obviously much more powerful then them the anyform thing works.

I'm not sure what you mean by SLA.

Thanks for the advice.

Just for the record, we aren't all deluded, you know. However, it's only quite recently that neopaganism has started to participate in the more academic side of things and sort the facts of our history from the rubbish.

Sorry to drag this onto the subject of real world religion (against the CoC, I know...) but I just thought I'd mention it :)

It's good to know. I've known both folks of different 'neo-pagan' flavors who knew about the actual roots and origin of their belief system and also those who probably just watched 'The Craft' one too many times in Highschool.

On a lesser level older belief systems have the same sort of dichotomy in their believers going on as well, it's just that the older religions tend to have had a longer period in which to engage in self reflection and to develop a cohesive framework and basis for their doctrines.

SLA = Shorthand/lazy for 'Spell-like Ability.'
