| greylix10-01-06, 04:29 PM | Here my question... Last night during our game we were attacked by a group of were-rats. They have damage reduction 10/silver. Does that mean that only silver weapons ignore the damage reduction or do magic weapons also ignore the damage reduction? What about adamantium weapons? What about spells? The SRD says spells ignore the damage reduction, but does that mean all spells or is it taken case by case (using a cold based spell against a cold based creature should not work, right...) Were-Rats with damage reduction 10/silver only are tough!!! Our group never thinks to carry silver weapons... |

The last three always overcome the DR, the first is specific to the creature. Magic and adamantine weapons would only overcome DR #/magic or DR #/adamantite, respectively. |

It's because most cold-based creatures have either resistance to cold to even immunity to cold. If a cold-based creature for some reason doesn't have neither of these, the cold will affect it normally. |

| Alac Luin10-02-06, 08:23 PM | as has been said, cold spells vs cold creatures has nothing to do DR, but it does have to do with the creatures subtype. "Cold Subtype: A creature with the cold subtype has immunity to cold. It has vulnerability to fire, which means it takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from fire, regardless of whether a saving throw is allowed, or if the save is a success or failure. " you will find something similar with the fire subtype. This only applies to creatures with the appropriate subtype. |
