| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-26-04, 05:32 PM | like both the Lava and Chamleon dragons, ilegible, now fixed: Dark Phoenix Alignment: Chaotic Evil Home Plane: The Abyss Dark Phoenixes Appears similar to the Phoenix in build, but is completely black in color. Its talons and beak reflect no light, but are a sliver color in daylight. Its eyes if viewed directly are red with black pupils. It Reflects back 20% of all magical energies cast towards it. due to its coloration the dark phoenix easily undetected at night. The dark phoenix can be trained if caught when young. However, if the young is found in the after-math of a battle it will immediately attack the first being that touches it. Used by Greater Tanar'ri as messengers, spies, and lesser assasins. The Dark Phoenix is not naturally an evil creature. The creature is created when a Phoenix goes through its death throws and a "hatchling" is left behind. The hatchling is then taken by a greater tanar'ri to the abyss. While there it is fed small demons, souls, and the occassional lesser tanar'ri. This effects a change in the nature of the Phoenix. While this process is for the most part successful (80% likely if caught immediately after the death of the adult). The likely hood of the process decreases 20% for every 24 hour period there-after. Combat: The Dark Phoenix has four available attacks. It's first attack is a breath weapon is an ear piercing "Scream" . A cone of force 30' long 20' wide at base doing 2d12 sonic damage. biting Attack 2d6 and 2 talon attacks at 2d8 each. A Dark phoenix can be called by summon monster 8. The Dark Phoenix, upon arrival, will use its breath weapon on the first available opponent. after its first use it takes 3 rounds to recover the ability. Every Dark Phoenix has the following spell-like powers, at 10th level of magic use, usable once per round, one at a time, at will: - audible - neutralize poison, 1 time per day - blindness - polymorph self, 3 times per day - blink - continual flame - blur - protection from good, 10' radius (always active) - call lesser Tanar'ri - continual darkness - raise dead, 1 time per day - control temperature - cause fear, within 10' radius (always active) - bestow curse - detect good (always active) - charm monster, once per day - detect magic (always active) - 1 time per day - wall of fire, 1 time per day - find traps - charm person, 3 times per day - fireball, 1 time per day - invisibility Also, by spreading its wings and performing a ritual dance, the Dark Phoenix can perform the following spell-like abilities at 10th level caster: - dismissal - dispel good - dispel magic Any of these three abilities can be used by a phoenix as many times as desired, but can only be done one at a time and each takes a full round to complete. No other activities- such as a shriek- can be done in conjunction with these three powers. A touch of its wing is equal to a inflict light wounds spell, with 2 touches possible per individual per day per phoenix. A touch of its comb gives an effect equal to inflict disease, but only once per day per person. In extreme situations, the dark phoenix can create a fire storm (20' high X 5' wide X 8' deep, as delayed blast fireball for 10 rounds). This kills the adult Dark Phoenix but leaves behind a young Dark Phoenix with all the powers and abilities of its predecessor. The Dark Phoenix can travel ethereally at will. They are hit by a +3 or better magical weapons. (Save as noted above, this is identical to the phoenix of the MM2) |

| Vanigo05-26-04, 11:27 PM | Well, the "baby" pheonixes created by a pheonix's immolation appear already full-grown, so it'd be kinda hard for the tanar'ri to get young pheonixes that way. |
