Rustmonster 06-15-07, 08:01 PM	Just a quick question. Are Darkmantles blind? I know they use blind sight, but I'm getting conflicting messages on wether they can actually see without it. Ps. As a side question, does it specificly have to say a creature can talk for it to talk? This is also kinda related to a Darkmantle... with human INT...
cwslyclgh 06-15-07, 08:34 PM	Nothin in the darkmantle description indicates that they lack vision other then thier blindsight, in absence of evidence to the contrary it appears that they can see with out thier blindsight, although not that well given thier environment and lack of darkvision. Ps. As a side question, does it specificly have to say a creature can talk for it to talk? This is also kinda related to a Darkmantle... with human INT... any creature with an intelligence score of at least 3 understands at least one language (common, unless noted otherwise). whether or not it can speak the language it understands is never mentioned in the rules, in general I allow most creatures to talk provided they have a reasonable anatomy to enable them to do so... I would probably not allow a darkmantle to talk under normal circumstances.
Talisman 06-15-07, 10:12 PM	"Blind" is actually a special quality I hve seen some creatures possess (such as oozes). Unless specified, a creature with blindsight/sense is not actually blind, and is therefore vulnerable to vision-based effects. And like cwslyclgh said, the rules are murky on monster speech.
Salla 06-15-07, 10:22 PM	Most monster stat entries will say, somewhere that '(Monster Name)'s speak (languages)'. If that line is absent, I assume the creature cannot speak.
