MagicMaster777 03-27-05, 04:49 PM	I'm confused about what the Death Slaad looks like. There is a picture in the monster manual that has two slaads; One with claws on each hand the other with a sword and staff. Another picture I found from one of the Planes books that says that the death slaad is the big one with the claws, but the monster manual describes it as a blue slaad. Which one is the death slaad??? :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:
scwolf 03-27-05, 05:03 PM	Aren't Death Slaads supposed to be Grey Slaads that have been around for a really long time? The one in the front of that picture, the one with the sword and staff, looks grey to me.

scwolf 03-27-05, 09:19 PM	Well, I just happened to double check the textblock on the Death Slaad in MM3.5, and it states that they look identical to grey slaads. So, when faced with a conflict between a monster's text box in a monster manual, vs, artwork from a book that's not about monsters, I think the general rule-of-thumb on Primary Source vs. Secondary Source would apply.

Shemeska the Marauder 03-27-05, 11:20 PM	There was some confusion in the art and details in the 3e MM regarding the Slaadi. The 3.5 MM is more correct. Red and Blue Slaadi are big and hulking, mostly physical and not likely to be tossing spells around. Big chaotic frogs ruled by nothing more than whimsy, hunger and instinct. Greens cast spells. Grays cast spells even better. Death Slaadi are for the most part very ancient Grays that undergo a self initiated apotheosis into something greater or Grays that are granted responsibility and power (for as much as the term means anything for a Slaadi) by one of the unique Slaad Lords (Ygorl, Ssendaam, Chourst, Rrenbuu, etc)
Freefall 03-28-05, 03:27 AM	The smaller one is the death Slaad. I think this is consistent with their actual description and what I remember from Planescape. In the Planar illustration, it is possible that it was mislabeled by accident or because someone saw the MM illustration and simply assumed that the larger, more menacing creature was the Death Slaad.
Manyfist 03-28-05, 07:15 AM	I want to make a Blue Slaad Character.... :eek: Have some Hexblade Levels, maybe Barbarian in there also. :eek: Scary Sight, especially when you have the ablity to make other Slaads.... :eek: That's a scary thought, an Army of Slaad.

The players in my group are REALLY :love: :evillaugh into slaads. We just play death slaads as regular characters, omitting certain details that make them too powerful for normal pc's. (for a house rule) For example, spell-like abilities, would not be included, although some may be allowed depending on how much it woud enhance the pc
