Demon Types [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-02-04, 04:34 PM Varous old 1e modules state demons as type - like demon type IV and so forth. Does anybody know where i can find out what the demon types are?

12-02-04, 04:47 PM Hmm, they became various Tanar'ri subtypes in 2e and 3e.

As I recall from the 1e material I've read, and I never played DnD till 3e:

Type I = Vrock
Type II = Hezrou
Type III = Glabrezu
Type IV = Nalfeshnee
Type V = Marilith
Type VI = Balor

12-02-04, 05:56 PM Shemeska's list is right on... they took the names of indvidual demons of each type (listed in the 1e DMG) and renamed the whole type after them... for example in 1e Nalfashnee was a type IV demon (along with Bilwhr and johud) etc... in 2e they dropped the "types" and just picked one name from each type to be the new name of that kind of demon.
