Does positive energy do damage to evil outsiders the same way it does to undead? I can't find anywhere whre it says so explicitly, but there are numerous references to "holy" damage, which I was under the assumption was fueled by positive energy. I'd really like some help so I can make a cleric character w/ the destroy undead variant from the new Ravenloft. But I'll be fighting more outsiders than undead, and the DM said he would allow it if I could find the rule. Any help would be great guys, Thanx

No, outsiders are alive, and thus animated by positive energy.
However there is the variant turning rule of banishing outsiders in UA.

You can use specialised positive energy to hurt outsiders, but this energy would also hurt humanoids. The damage done from Smite Evil et al. are not derived from positive energy.

Not officially, but I think it's a perfectly good house rule. I can't think of any demons or devils, off the top of my head, that can cast healing spells, so it's not like you'd be depriving them of a part of their CR.

Holy and Unholy damage is actually "Divine" energy. It is neither positive nor negative and it cannot be resisted.

Remember, the Inner Planes are separate from the Outer Planes. Outsiders are not really "alive" in the sense that a creature from the Material Plane is.

That is, they are not animated by Positive Energy, they do not need to eat or sleep. They are conceptual beings composed of belief, which is the "essence" of the Outer Planes.

From the 3.5 System Reference Docs:
Outsider Type: An outsider is at least partially composed of the essence (but not necessarily the material) of some plane other than the Material Plane. Some creatures start out as some other type and become outsiders when they attain a higher (or lower) state of spiritual existence.

They may not eat or sleep, but they need to breathe alright. Interesting how a conceptual being composed of belief can live for centuries without food or sleep, but probably won't last 10 minutes without air. Surely such a fragile creature needs no special treatment when it comes to positive and/or negative energy? :p
