Yup. And Necromancers, who aren't, interestingly enough, any better at defending against Negative Energy than anyone else.

Some Demons could certainly use negative energy, but you are most likely to find negative energy in the Undead.

07-16-05, 01:58 AM In our upcoming campaigne, the DM has decided to make us a band of undead slayers. He has stressed our battle against anything that uses Neg. energy.

I'm hopeing this dosen't limit us to just killing undead and necromancers. I'm without a MM, hence the questions.

You should clarify your statement. Do you mean are they sustained by negative energy (like undead) or do they use negative energy in spell-like abilities and such?

For the former, no, they are not sustained on negative energy. Demons, beholders, and mind flayers are all alive, therefore they are sustained by positive energy. They are healed by positive energy (Cure spells) and are harmed by negative energy (Inflict spells).

For the latter, maybe. Anything that casts or can use any Inflict spell or the like is "using" negative energy in that it summons up some, I guess you could say, to harm the target. Note, however, that doing this is not evil. It most definately can be used for evil ends, and usually is by these creatures, but this channelling of negative energy is not evil in of itself.

Undead and three living creatures: Trilloch, Xeg-yi, and Slow Shadows. (It used to be four, but one of the designers for 3e decided that the phrase "the Devourer is not undead" meant "the Devourer is undead".)
