| Black Jack Davey08-05-04, 02:37 PM | Does anyone know of a place I can find more information on demons, devils, celestials, and other simialr beings? Stats would be very helpful (particularly stats for lower-level beings) but any other information would also be of use. I would greatly appreciate any help here. I'm mostly looking for online resources, but if there are any books that would be particularly useful I would hear of them as well. Thanks. |
| Shemeska the Marauder08-05-04, 02:53 PM | 3e resources: MM, MMII, Fiend Folio, Book of Vile Darkness, Book of Exalted Deeds. Manual of the Planes - for the most detail. 2e / Planescape material (which is what most of the 3e material is but a pale reflection of anyways): 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends' - The definative source of fiends in DnD. One of the single best books ever printed for DnD in any edition, hands down. 'Hellbound: The Blood War' - details on the Blood War between the 3 main fiend races and how the war affects every other plane in the multiverse, includes how the celestials regard the war and are involved in it Planescape Monstrous Compendium I and II : very very good detail on the 3 main fiend races and the 2e stats (interesting to compare them with the 3e stats. Some made the conversion well, others got nerfed, others got boosted). Planes of Law, Planes of Chaos, Planes of Conflict box sets - the seminal resources on the individual planes that harbor the fiends and celestials. 99% of the 3e material in the MotP is based on the material herein, in some cases directly quoted. |
| Black Jack Davey08-05-04, 02:57 PM | I do have the Monster Manual and the Manual of the Planes. I think they will both be of help. How useful is the Fiend Folio, overall? Does anyone know any online sources? Maybe even player-made websites? |

It's an alright book, hit or miss in my opinion. The Yugoloths therein were pretty decent, but the art for the Rilmani was a travesty, and they only included 3 of the Rilmani subtypes, leaving out Argenach, Plumach and Abiormach. I'm glad I got the book though, that gripe notwithstanding. Online sources: The Mimir (http://www.mimir.net/main.shtml) - old school Planescape and some of the best fan created stuff out there. There's also material on Planewalker (http://www.planewalker.com) though at the moment we're mostly concentrating on updating the setting to 3e before we work on much else. At the moment we've got the factions, feats, and Sigil updated and posted. PlHB Sigil = a couple pages; Planewalker's Sigil = 70 odd pages, originally close to 100 before trimming it down. ;) |
| Black Jack Davey08-05-04, 03:33 PM | Sigil? |
| Shemeska the Marauder08-05-04, 04:12 PM | Originally posted by Black Jack Davey Sigil? Sigil, The City of Doors, center of the Outer Planes. A city built on the inner surface of a massive ring floating above the Infinite Spire in the Outlands, plane of true neutrality. Inside Sigil, any bound space can function as a portal to potentially any place in the planes if only you have the right gate key to activate it. Sigil is mentioned in the 3e MotP and was the centerpiece for the 2e Planescape setting that gave most of the flavor and development to the core planes. |
| BOZ08-05-04, 05:46 PM | we have most (if not all) of the missing celestials, fiends, and rilmani at the Creature Catalog: http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/index.php |
| Black Jack Davey08-06-04, 01:15 AM | Creature Catalog! Of course! I knew I missing something obvious. I've been there in the past, but not for a while. As I remember, it was a very useful site. I think that's where I discovered giant space hamsters. Thanks for the help. |
| BOZ08-06-04, 01:37 AM | LOL we still have the hamsters. :D |
| Black Jack Davey08-06-04, 01:55 PM | How long before more of the creatures there are upgraded to 3.5? I know the 3.0 would work just fine, but 3.5 versions would be easier, since that's what I play. And are there any plans to allow for easier search of the site in the future? |
| BOZ08-06-04, 06:02 PM | it's been a slow process... but we are working on it. :) i've been focusing more on new conversions, but the upgrade effort has been fairly constant. |
| Black Jack Davey08-06-04, 06:19 PM | That's good to hear. I'm also glad that both the 3.0 and 3.5 versions are still available. |
| BOZ08-07-04, 02:42 PM | we'll be keeping both versions up there, for those who prefer one or the other, but anything new we do will be 3.5. most of the stuff you were looking for above is 3.5 :) |
| Qube08-07-04, 03:20 PM | i like the d20 book of fiends I (the legions of hell) and II (armys of the abyss) |
| Black Jack Davey08-08-04, 12:20 AM | I just bought Legions of Hell. I like it a lot. I just need to find myself a copy of Armies of the Abyss now. |
| Black Jack Davey08-08-04, 03:47 PM | Thanks, everyone for the help. I'm going to start making some creatures of my own now. |
| Freefall08-08-04, 08:09 PM | Legions of Hell and Armies of the Abyss are both included in the one-volume "Book of Fiends", which also includes Hordes of Gehenna (lots of Daemons) and some excerpts from the Unholy Warrior's Handbook (basically a class that is similar to the Blackguard, except highly customizable and laid out as a basic class instead of a prestige class). Oh, and both the Legions of Hell and Armies of the Abyss sections have a couple extra critters in there, so even if you already have those books, there are some new things in there for you. It's also made for 3.5, although this basically just means that the DR and maybe some of the feats are changed. For the most part, the stats of the critters are the same as before, except for some of the CRs being altered a bit (like Iblis, who is now CR 40, although he really didn't get a power boost; they might have just followed the guidelines more strictly, i.e. taking a solar, +1 CR per 2 HD, +1 CR for huge size, +2 for fallen angel, etc). |
| Black Jack Davey08-08-04, 08:19 PM | Yeah, I know about that. $35, though. Not worth it to me. I'm mostly interested in the devils now. |
| Dackad08-08-04, 10:44 PM | Check the links in my sig. ;) |
| Gadodel08-08-04, 10:46 PM | Lots of nice linkys.. |
