| The Vorpal Tribble03-01-05, 04:48 AM | This may be a dumb idea, but its been itchin at my mind for a long, long time, so maybe this will scratch it. Why the thought of a gigantic umbrella-mouth gulper eel-type creature that swallows you into the negative energy plane has been niggling at me I've not a clue. Also was not sure what to call a negative-living creature but an undead. Open to suggestiona. -=-=-=- Deepestblack http://www.blameitoneve.com/stuff/fish_files/image082.jpg Large Elemental (Extraplanar) Hit Dice: 8d8+48 (84 hp) Initiative: +5 Speed: Fly 50 ft. Its gaping jaws look to be completely unhinged and lined with sharp, pin-like teeth. Within is utter darkness that flickers occassionally with even darker blackness. The whole rest of its long, thin body could easily fit within. Spiney, fin-like protrustions line its spine and tail and continuously ripple up and down its length. Its wrinkled skin is of a dark, murky color seemingly thin enough to nearly see through. What little part of its head thats not mouth is taken up by huge, lidless eyes. Deepestblacks are one of the few native creatures found in the Negative Energy Plane, living, or unliving as it were, about the neverending nothingness. Those seen outside their realm are normally the results of expirements with transportational or necrotic magics. What type of expirements these are remains a mystery as those who bring forth the deepestblack seldom live long. A veritable one-beast plague, a deepestblack can rid an entire town of all living creatures in days. Combat: Deepestblacks prefer to weaken their foes from high above with their breath weapon and then dive down with their permanently gaping maw to swallow their victim. Breath Weapon (Su): Once per minute a Deepestblack can release a line of negative energy 60 feet long that deals 4d6 damage (DC 20 reflex save halves). The save DC is constitution based. Everhungered (Ex): Any healing spell or other powers that deal with positive energy within 30 feet of the deepestblack is instead drawn into the beast's maw. Spells dealing with negative energy aimed at the deepestblack heals it as many hit points as it would normally harm as if it were an undead. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a deepestblack must hit with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to engulf the foe in the following round. Levitate (Ex): It is unknown how a Deepestblack keeps itself seperated from the ground, but even within an anti-magic field it remains boyant. Lifeleach (Su): Every round any living creature in an adjoining square to the Deepestblack is drained of 1d4 hit points. This effect can't reduce any creature's hit points to less than 0. Grass and other plants in this vicinity wither quickly. Engulf (Ex): A Deepestblack can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of up to its own size by making a successful grapple check. The swallowed victim may make an opposed strength check to keep from being forced down the Deepestblack's gullet. A deepestblack may use its breath weapon, no save, however to any being fighting the swallow. If it loses the check it slides farther in and must make another save to keep from going through the Inner Portal. Inner Portal (Su): Once within the Deepestblack, the victim discovers the link the creature has with its home, for the insides of the deepestblack is a portal directly back to the negative energy plane. The swallowed creature must make a Reflex save (DC 20) each round to avoid falling into or being squeezed through the portal. If the victim makes the save he can make another opposed strength check to be returned to the deepestblack's mouth. The Negative side of the portal is stationary, but the other side moves with the deepestblack. If this portal is closed in some fashion, the Deepestblack dies 1d6 minutes later, falling to the ground and growing weaker and weaker. In this state it is considered helpless and cannot use any of its abilities. The save DC is constitution based. |
| The Vorpal Tribble03-04-05, 03:26 AM | Based on some suggestions and observations have balanced this a good deal. I'm still wondering if there is a type I can give this that is not undead, but something that lives off negative energy. |
| rayan4d203-04-05, 08:53 AM | The negative energy plane is an inner plane, so I would go with Negative Energy Elemental. I think its very cool. |
| pseudoidiot03-04-05, 09:41 AM | i think every plane needs a creature like this!! player 1: hey, we need to go to plane XXX player 2: but we dont have any magic to get there player 3: i know! we need to find a (insert name of creature)! ..... player 1: excuse me, can we climb in your mouth? seriously, though, that's a pretty cool idea. especially the channeling of positive energy. can anyone count the number of times they've seen undead destroyed not just by turning, but by simply channeling positive energy into them? including lay on hands and cure spells. |
| The Vorpal Tribble03-04-05, 12:49 PM | The negative energy plane is an inner plane, so I would go with Negative Energy Elemental. I didn't even think of that... many thanks! :dancin: |
| KingGolem05-14-06, 06:21 PM | :D Approved by KingGolem |
| Shemeska the Marauder05-14-06, 10:48 PM | I'd also change the alignment to true neutral, in line with the plane itself, and with the other known negative energy plane natives (- energons, trillochs). |
