Desert Hound: Servant of Ajan FEEDBACK PLEASE! [Archive] - Wizards Community

Special Attacks: Clench, Gaze of Fury, Charm Person
Special Qualities: Dark Vision 60 ft.
Saves: Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +8
Abilities: Str 20, Dex 18, Con 10, Int 6, Wis 16, Cha 15
Skills: Hide +10, Listen +12, Move Silently +10, Spot +12
Feats: Improved Initia
Climate/Terrain: Deserts or other dry regions.
Orginization: Solitary or pair
Challenge rating: 5
Treaure: None
Alignment: Always Chaotic Evil.

Desert Hounds are servants of the Demi God Ajan. Their purpose is to convey the commen man to the side of total darkness, either through force or intelect. When they run into a humanoid creature, they seldom attack right away. They first make their presence known. All who see them in this state must make a will check (DC 15) or become paralyzed with fright for 1d4 turns. Then, the hounds speek in a strong, high pitched voice "The voice of Ajan". It tells the characters of the Religion of Ajan, and gives the characters the option to join. If the characters join, then Ajan makes his presence known and gives the characters a test (quest). If they refuse, the hounds finish their buisness :).
COMBAT
Desert Hounds do not nessesarily take to combat, however they are strong and fast. When in combat, they perfer to grapple their opponet then rip at their neck.
Clench: If a Desert Hound has successfuly grappled a player, it may choose, full round action, to bite at the neck (grapple check). If it succeds, then the player looses 1d10 HP per round until uncounsious. Desert Hounds can only attempt to Clench medium sized creatures and smaller.
Gaze of Fury: Once per day, a Desert Hound can make its eyes burn red. All who see it must make a will save (DC 15) or suffer 1d6 damage and be paralyzed for 1d4 rounds.

well........... there it is. What do you think? Just so you know, Desert Hounds are alot like Worgs, however they have little hair and a thick hide. (their skin is orangish brown). Please feel free to post all coments!

The damage for the bite should be 1d8+7.

05-30-04, 12:13 AM The creature is a nice one, but i still have a few questions. Where'd the +5 hp come from? Also, outsiders have d8 hit dice.

05-30-04, 12:19 AM thanks! I fixed that. Just thought I'd add a little something. A person who has been successfully clenched is helpless, because the arteries on the neck are punctured (nice touch if you ask me :))
