Alright, quick simple question. Its been bugging me and I gotta ask: Would it be viable to call or summon a form of Devastation Vermin? I'm not worried about HD, I'm just wondering if it can be done.

Thanks in advance. :)

Well, the summon epic spell seed allows you to summon monsters to help you, with a DC increase if the summoned creature isn't an outsider. So... yes.

Besides, despite their coolness and battle strength, they are laughably easy to out maneuver. Its the tarrasque problem but at a much higher level. fly or invisiblity is the win against them. But as for summoning them, it would take either an epic spell or an artifact for sure.

Whats really funny is a single 18th level character can beat a Devastation vermin using only material found in the three core books.

It would have to be a wizard/sorcerer or cleric.

They use create undead greater to make some spectres or shadows and then either rebuke them under there command or use control undead spell.

The Devastation Vermin can't hit the incorporeal creatures and there is no save to resist gaining negative levels from a spectre (though you do make a save 24 hours later to remove them).
And being a vermin it can't rise as a Spectre after being slain.

The Devastation vermin may have impressive AC's but natural armor is useless against an incorporeal touch making it rather weak in this case.
It take quite a while but the undead master can easily stay out of reach while his spectres level drain the 100+HD to nothing.

Its weaknesses are all too similar to those of the tarrasque. So similar tactics should work, though now, you have to worry about that bothersome regeneration.

Of course this assumes you have time to prepare, if your adventuring through the underdark and it bursts into the cavern your in. Better hope you've got a teleport to get out.

Are you referring to the devastation vermin or the tarrasque?

I can't imagine a DM running a tarrasque as some sort of random encounter (you require wish to take it down, which implies some degree of preparation or insight into what you expect to face, if the battle is to be a meaningful one). Still, at this juncture, the wizard should never be without a contingency teleport or something to gate the party away in a pinch. Shadow walk, astral projection etc all work as well.

As for devastation vermin, given its cr, the party will have more than ample resources to run away and fight another day. Don't forget that this is high epic gameplay. The PCs will have the means to pretty much dictate where, when and how they will fight. :)
