Diamond Dragon? [Archive] - Wizards Community

If Tiamat (multi-colored dragon) is the goddess of Chromatic dragons, and Bahamut (platinum, most precious of metals) is the god of metallic dragons, doesn’t that mean that the gem dragons should have a Diamond dragon as it’s god(dess)? To me, this seems like a strange omission from the D&D universe. I’ve found only two references on the WotC website. The first was to the prestige class from Dragon Magic (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/prc), which is irrelevant. The second is an obscure reference from Creature Competition (identical entries at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20060613a and http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20060314a) that seems to indicate Diamond Dragons as a breed of dragon rather than a unique, divine dragon.

Is there anything substantial on this to which you can point me? Does anyone find this omission as odd as I do?

there might be one...Tiamat has a sister who is the Goddess of Purple, Yellow, and Orange dragons, and she was mentioned in Dragon magazine and the Dragon compendium again. So if anything exists it might be there. If not I guess We would (again lol) have to Fan-create one :)

I've never opened a single Dragon or Dungeon magazine in my life, so maybe that's why I'm not aware of it.

The Deity of the Gem Dragons is Sardior. The Mind's Eye has more information on him here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20030124a) and here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040227a) and here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040327a) and here. Or rather had a sister who was that goddess. She's supposedly dead, but then deific resurrection is not unheard of. Or maybe the tales had it wrong. Me, I like to think it was Hlal who created those dragons (out of jealousy of Tiamat) to be originally good, and that Tiamat corrupted them after which she either defeated Hlal or destroyed an avatar or aspect of Hlal. I mean, orange, purple, and yellow can seem whimsical colors for dragons.

If Tiamat corrupted the lost chromatic dragons after killing her sister, why didn't she stole her creations and made them hers. She could have become a 8-headed goddess (or 9-headed if you include the brown). That would have been totally awesome.

Oh BTW, Sadior is the gem dragon deity, also known as the ruby dragon.

If you're looking for a diamond dragon, I made one a while back. Here's the link:

First impression: Why would a dragon of the subtype, light, live underground? If it's because the dragon is a gem dragon, and gems are underground, then why would a gem dragon have a subtype of light? Just being picky. :)

In my storyline, the process of corrupting them also broke any loyalty they might have to any deity be it Hlal or Tiamat. They also weren't called "chromatic" dragons by Hlal originally; they were more like the "pseudochromatic" or "pastel" dragons as Hlal's whimsical way of mocking Tiamat (much to her detriment later). After surviving that fiasco, Hlal tried again with just one more dragon: the pink dragon. Yes, I kid you not. The pink dragon from the April Fools' Dragon #156 is in the pipeline for a serious, 3.5 conversion over at this EN World thread (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=181191) where I am participating. This time though, the pink dragon is safe, and Tiamat was unable to interfere.

At least, that's the fluff I'm writing. :D

I think it would be nifty to a several sub-species of chromatic and even metallic dragons.

They might not be as powerful as their "true" cousins, but could still have age categories etc.

Some possibilities could include...
Turqoise Dragon - I picture him as a more serpentine dragon.
Cobalt Dragon - Like a "dark blue dragon".
Lavender Dragon
Gray Dragon
Jade Dragon - Like a "dark green dragon".
Tan Dragon - Sort of a "light brown dragon".

I dunno, things like that. I know it's most likely been brought up before, but i can't remember if anyone took it on and statted a few up.

Edit: Oh yeah, and some sort of chameleon dragon that can change colors to confuse adventurers.

I like where you're going with this, but "jade dragon" sounds like a subspecies of gem dragon, and a chameleon dragon isn't necessary. There are metabreath feats that allow a dragon to change its breath weapon's energy type and disbursement (i.e., cone v. line). Combine that with a polymorph-type spell and voila, you have confused adventurers.

Wait, I thought the creator of the Yellow, Purple and Orange dragons was Vorel and that she was killed by Tiamat to frame Bahumut.:plotting:

Actually, all of your suggestions have been done here or at EN World. To wit:

chromatic subspecies: in addition to the five original, the "lost" chromatics and brown dragon can be subcategories, as "secondary" and "aberrant" (because it is flightless, among others) chromatic dragons.
metallic subspecies: ditto, with the mercury dragon of Faerûn (and the as yet unstatted electrum dragon of Myth Drannor) as the "secondary" and the steel dragon as the "aberrant" (due to its more neutral tendencies and name of a metal/non-metal alloy) metallic dragons.
turquoise dragon: one of my three subpsionic gem dragons, statted here.
cobalt dragon: one of the five ferrous dragons (http://www.enworld.org/Inzeladun/inzeladun/monsters/dragons/dragonsferrous.htm) of Inzeladun, with 3.0 stats here (http://www.enworld.org/Inzeladun/inzeladun/monsters/dragons/ferrous/dragonscobalt.htm). As hinted by BOZ at EN World, the 3.5 stats have been submitted to Dragon as an article proposal so that they will be considered official D&D dragons.
jade dragon: another of my three subpsionic gem dragons, statted here.

The gem dragons are either on the site or in MM2 depending upon which ones you want. Also there is a non-gem dragon that also seems to be under Sardior but is still psionic.

Also your Jade dragon isn't appearing

Oh crud; it's because that thread is now inactive so it's been archived and the link has changed; I'll come back and fix it when I find it.
