Diamond Dragons? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-06-07, 01:52 PM Unless Barnwellknight is talking about gem dragons or the crystal dragon (one kind of gem dragon). Which I suspect is the case, as this is the Monster's Lair forum. Gem dragons appear in Monster Manual II, iirc. They are a third class of true dragons, being neutral on the good-evil access and psionic in nature. They gain manifesting ability as a psion rather than casting ability as a sorcerer. Although I think maybe the book also shows how to have them as sorcerers in a non-psionic game. Mind's Eye articles have something on gem dragons. Including a sixth variety, the obsidian dragons. They are NE and have been cast out of gem dragon society by their patron deity Sardior (compare Bahamut or Tiamat). With this addition, there is a gem dragon to represent each psionic discipline (compare school of magic).

09-06-07, 06:35 PM I'm referring to gem dragons. I just saw on Wikipedia's article on gem dragons and it had this about Diamond dragons:

Diamond dragon
Breath weapon: Concentrated light, Diamond shards,Wave of Sonic Vibration. (shock wave)
Terrain: Underground
Alignment: Neutral evil

I don't know where this info came from, and that's why I'm asking.

09-06-07, 06:48 PM Evil? I thought the point of gem dragons was that they were neutral where the chromatics were evil and the metallics were good?

09-06-07, 07:00 PM Presumably, the Diamond gem dragon is either from 2nd Ed or a third party source; it is not in the monster index, and the last update to it was only a month ago. The five gem dragons in MM2 are all neutral, and the Obsidian (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psb/20030124b) is a web expansion.

09-06-07, 08:50 PM That gem dragons Wiki article is erroneous. A 3rd party diamond dragon, if there ever is one, shouldn't be on it as it's meant for WotC D&D dragons only. Now that the name "diamond dragon" is used for a psionic PrC it can't be used for a true dragon anymore officially, though I use it for a homebrew epic gem dragon.
