| The King of Boredom07-08-03, 02:05 AM | Okay. So I toss a couple Kalareem at my players...four of them put up a decent fight with second level characters. CR 3, that makes sense. Then I make those same Kalareem first level fighters since their advancement is "by character class"...their ECL is +6...so now they're CR 7...against my third level players. Did I miss something there? And the Varrot aren't as bad, just two difference instead of three...but the Sillit?! CR 6 and ECL +18?! WTF? Can someone explain this to me? Is there a reason for the huge differences in CR and ECL? I mean you can't tell me that a first level Sillit Wizard is going to hold a candle to a nineteenth level human wizard...or a nineth level human wizard for that matter. I must be missing something...like an errata or something. At least I hope so. |

You also don't use ECL when making NPCs. It's only for players. For CR calculation for classed monssters, you use: Base CR (Monster CR) + PC Class Character Level (or 1/2 NPC Class Character Level). Hope that helped. |
