| Domriso03-25-07, 11:24 PM | Ummmm, what? This is, ahem, interesting, but what is it for? |
| mythSSK03-26-07, 03:13 AM | I found it quite amusing, actually. And there's a fair few good ideas for Dire animals tucked in there as well. |
| Raptorial03-26-07, 11:08 AM | I attempted to make a thread for dire animals, but it died and was lost in time. I think that this may be a chance to renew the idea. |
| lastknightleft03-26-07, 12:42 PM | if this becomes a thread for the creation of dire animals, that would be great, if not I would want one created because seriously I want to see as many dire animals as there are animals |

However, upon closer inspection, you realize that it is in fact a large squirrel bounding from branch to branch. Dire squirrels, much like their smaller counterparts, are arboreal mammals that spend most of their time foraging for food on the forest floor. Their teeth are strong enough to gnaw through soft wood, rope, or leather given the time, and can deliver wicked bites if necessary. Their paws are dexterous enough to pick up and manipulate small objects, although they can’t carry them, since they walk on all fours. A small number of dire squirrels are “flying” squirrels and gain the flying ability detailed below. COMBAT Dire squirrels normally flee from combat, attacking only if they are cornered. Flying (Ex): Some squirrels have furry membranes that enable them to glide. This gives the dire squirrel the ability to fly for up to two rounds at a speed of 20 ft. with Poor maneuverability. It also allows the dire squirrel to glide downwards; enabling it to treat falls as if they were 40 feet shorter then they actually are as long as the dire squirrel is not helpless. Skills: Dire squirrels use their Dexterity modifier for Climb and Jump checks. They get a +4 racial bonus to Hide, Jump, and Move Silently checks and a +8 racial bonus to Balance and Climb checks. Special: A 1st level druid may select a dire squirrel as an animal companion. |
| The_Basilisk03-26-07, 02:51 PM | LOL my next druid is going to have a dire squirrel companion. I like the dire penguin. In Age of Wonders:Shadow Magic, dire penguins are awesome, I've had entire parties die at the hands (flippers?) of one. They should have improved overrun when on slippery surfaces. SLIIIIIIIDE! |
