Hum, maybe iīm gonna let my PCs fall into an ambush where Dire Elephants jump from the trees...
d_nychus 01-21-04, 12:54 PM	Umm...there's more to Climb than just trees.... Maybe ever heard of things like "mountains," or "walls" or even "cliffs?" A human can Climb a twig by the rules. It's just commonsense that the twig would not support his weight. I don't find it dumb. If that's your reasoning behind why dire elephants SHOULDN'T have ranks in Climb, then NOTHING should have ranks in climb.

Anyway, Elephants can't climb too well, but I've seen them stand on their hind legs to get at something they couldn't before, and I'm fairly sure that climbing is the only way to accurately represent that.

You would be hard pressed to find those last two on reptiles, insects, fish, etc., but that doesn't mean they don't have them. Not all creatures are as blunt about their features as humans.

What joke? Anyway, I think that a dire elephant could climb. It may not have gripping claws, sticky feet pads, or anything like that, but its feet probably get good traction. Also, it could use its extremely muscular trunk to help itself along. And like somebody said before, climb isn't limited to trees. For instance, larger creatures have bigger hand holds than smaller ones, so a dire elephant might find it no trouble to climb a small mountain or hill (though not steep ones). By the way, does anyone know where I can find 3.5 dire elephant stats? I want to see what feats it has.
