| moosekickedmysisterstoof05-18-04, 06:49 PM | Here's another one of my crazy dire animal ideas. I'm not very good at determining CR, so if anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Dire Giraffe Gargantuan Animal Hit Dice: 12d8+87 (138 hp) Initiative: +1 Speed: 50 ft. (8 squares) Armor Class: 16 (–4 size, +1 Dex, +9 natural), touch 7, flat-footed 15 Base Attack/Grapple: +9/+33 Attack: Hoof +17 melee (3d6+12) Full Attack: 2 hooves +17 melee (3d6+12) or headbutt +17 melee (2d10+12) Space/Reach: 20 ft./15 ft. Special Attacks: Trample 3d6+12 Special Qualities: Low-light vision, scent Saves: Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +6 Abilities: Str 35, Dex 13, Con 24, Int 2, Wis 14, Cha 6 Skills: Listen +14, Spot +18 Feats: Alertness, Endurance, Iproved Natural Attack (headbutt), Improved Natural Attack (Hoof), Skill Focus (Spot) Environment: Warm plains Organization: Solitary or herd (6–11) Challenge Rating: ? Advancement: 13–18 HD (Gargantuan); 19–36 HD (Colossal) Level Adjustment: — This titanic animal is as tall as a building. Its neck stretches high into the sky and is equipped with a massive head that is covered in bony horns. Its legs are as long and thick as some of the largest tree trunks. Dire giraffes are extremely tall herbivores that live in sunny savannahs. They stand as tall as some dinosaurs, and are often taller than the trees they feed on. An average dire giraffe stands some 80 feet tall and weighs about 18,000 pounds. Many war generals have tried to tame dire giraffes for battle mounts, but few have been successful. Combat: Dire giraffes normally ignore other creatures, but will attack if they or their young are threatened. When fighting, dire giraffes either us their jagged hooves to stomp their opponents into jelly or (usually only against huge opponents) they swing their mighty necks at their foes for a powerful whiplash headbutt. A particularly surly dire giraffe will repeatedly trample over its enemy until it is little more than a bloody stain on the ground. Trample (Ex): Reflex save DC 28. The save DC is strength-based. |
| obrysii05-18-04, 08:20 PM | sounds good but ((this might just be from flavour)) wouldn't being 80ft tall make it in the Colossal size? |
| moosekickedmysisterstoof05-19-04, 04:38 PM | I'm not really sure. What is the tallest a creature can be without being colossal? Also, any ideas about the CR? |
| fish_heads05-19-04, 04:41 PM | This is awesome. I think I'm gonna use this in a campaign. Also, try CR 9. I don't know why, but it just...feels right |
| TwinBahamut05-19-04, 04:55 PM | Only hoof attacks? Come on, give the giraffe its signature attack! After all, only giraffes can really pull off a whiplash headbutt. In case you didn't know, giraffes swing their whole necks around like a whip to strike rival giraffes with their puny horns while fighting each other over mates. Otherwise, cool idea. Great work! |
| moosekickedmysisterstoof05-19-04, 05:05 PM | I wanted to give it a headbutt, but I figured that it wouldn't be useful against opponents too small to reach its head. However, I think I'll give it a headbutt anyway. |
