| Evandar_TAybara07-13-04, 07:22 PM | Ok, first a bit of info for those of you who do not have native hedgehogs roaming your countryside and have no idea what I'm talking about.... Hedgehog Info (http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/h1/hedgehog.asp) Hedgehog Piccie (http://www.shetlandtourism.com/images/hedgehog.jpg) I wan't to make a dire hedgehog (more for a comic interlude than anything else), but have no idea how to adapt a spine covered creature into d20 system rules. Just AC? Damage reduction? Creatures attacking it get injured? Note that hedgehogs have few natural predators because (as my dog discovers every time he tries to eat one) it's very painful trying to eat a living pin-cushion. Evan. |
| Not a monkey07-13-04, 07:29 PM | Found this on a quick search. Strange that it has an Int 4. Also if you're really evil you could make it Medium even. http://www.enworld.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-64328 Dire Hedgehog Small Animal (dire) HD 3d8+3 (hp 16) Initiative +2 (Dex); Speed 10 ft; AC 17 (+2 Dex, +2 size, +3 natural); Attacks bite +4 melee; Damage bite 1d6; Face/Reach 5 ft by 5ft/5ft; Special quality : Scent, Spines Saves: Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1; Abilities: Str 11, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 4, Wis 12, Cha 4; Skills and Feats: Hide +10, Listen +6, Move Silently +6; Weapon finesse (bite) Climate/Terrain: Any Plains Organization: Solitary bunch (2-4) Challenge Rating:? Treasure: none Alignment: Always Neutral Advancement: None This dire form of Hedgehog, is a larger, and more dangerous the it’s cousin. Roughly 3 foot long, with sharp spines. Spines (Ex): Creatures doing unarmed strikes against a hedgehog must make a Reflex Save (DC 11) or get struck by a spine, doing 1d4 point of damage. If someone were stupid enough to try to eat it or play football with it, they take 1d6 points of damage |

| Evandar_TAybara07-13-04, 09:13 PM | :heehee It will now be know as Spiny Norman. Whatever size I end up, it wil be the case where normal sized weapons (non-reach, for small & medium creatures) will have difficulty hitting anything but spines as the spine length will be greater than the reach of the weapon... How would you put this in rules? DR 10/ranged or reach? Or just apply the idea of the attacker taking damage every time he hits as presented in the dire hh above? Evan. |
| Red_Decker07-13-04, 09:35 PM | Make it horrid then Gigantic and you got some acidic fun. Spines that drip with acid to me is just more threatening then teeth. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |

| Mithral Icesilver07-14-04, 05:32 PM | Here are your basic hedgehog stats (reverse-engineered from the hedgehog familiar in T&B, with poison dropped): Hedgehog Diminutive Animal HD: 1/4d8 Initiative: +1 Base Attack/Grapple +0/-16 Speed: 15 ft. AC: 16 (+4 size, +1 natural, +1 Dex) Attacks: Bite +0 melee Damage: Bite 1d3-4 Face/Reach: 1 ft/0 ft Special Qualities: Defensive ball Saves: Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +1 Abilities: Str 3, Dex 12, Con 10, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 5 Skills: Hide +17, Listen +5, Spot +5 Feats: (1 feat) Climate/Terrain: Any forest Organization: (I never did figure this one out; little help?) CR: 1/10 Treasure: None Alignment: Always Neutral Advancement: - Defensive Ball (Ex): A hedgehog can curl up into a ball of spines as a standard action, granting a +2 circumstance bonus to all saves and AC. It can't attack while curled (but can move - makes perfect sense to me). Uncurling is a free action. |
| Riznar07-14-04, 05:45 PM | While the normal hedgehog's poison is only a mild irritant, I think the dire version should do something truely nasty. Also it appears that they roll into balls to reduce falling damage. |
