| Flushmaster08-07-05, 07:37 PM | So Hairfoot suggested "dire lint" on the "1001 pickpocketed items" thread on the D&D general forum. I was just bored enough to actually decide that making stats for dire lint would be a good idea. And this is the result, about 20 minutes later. ======================================== ======================= Dire Lint Dimunitive aberration HD: 1/4 d8 (1 hp) Speed: 2.5 feet (1/2 square) Armor Class: 16 (+4 size, +1 dex, +1 natural), touch 14, flat footed 14 Base Attack/Grapple: +0/-12 Attack: Abrasion +5 melee (1d2-2) Full Attack: Abrasion +5 melee (1d2-2) Space/Reach: 1/2 ft./0 Special Attacks: Static Cling Special Qualities: Linty Saves: Fort: +2, Ref +3, Will -1 Abilities: Str 1, Dex 13, Con 10, Int 1, Wis 4, Cha 1 Skills: Hide +21 (+41 among cloth) Feats: Weapon Finesse (abrasion) Environment: Pockets of rarely laundered garments, anywhere it got tossed when removed from said pockets. Organization: Solitary, pack (2-6), or swarm (5-20 plus 1-3 advanced dire lint) Challenge Rating: 1/6 Advancement: Advanced Dire Lint (5 HD, small size) Level Adjustment: - Sometimes created by freak arcane surges or just being left in an unlaundered pocket for too long, dire lint is a mild nuisance at best. Many who have "defeated" a dire lint never actually knew that they were even in a fight because they simply tossed it aside. A dire lint is roughly the size of a human infant's fist. Combat Linty: Dire lint is composed of threads and fuzzballs and as such is immune to all piercing and bludgeoning damage. slashing damage affects it as normal, as does any form of energy damage. Due to it's anatomy, if reduced to zero HP it is simply destroyed as it comes apart. Static Cling: If a dire lint is touched by anything or succeeds a touch attack or abrasion attack against anything it may automatically cling to that creatture or object as a free action. While clinging, any piercing and bludgeoning damage or any slashing damage dealt in excess of its total HP is transferred to the creature or object that it is clinging to. The dire lint can be removed by making a successful grapple check against it. ======================================== ======================= This would be best used as something to cling to a pickpocket's hand and hopefully deal 1 point of abrasion damage and freak out the PC. The player thinks it might actually be dangerous, as do any allies, and they attack it, likely hurting themselves in the process. Anybody who simply says "I brush it off" gets to make a grapple check that they're extremely likely to win and the dire lint falls to the ground and slowly wanders off. Trying to step on it results in it beginning to chew through your boot/foot. |
| angelshelper8108-07-05, 07:39 PM | Hehehehe... I like it. |
| Tevish Szat08-07-05, 07:45 PM | and now i'm tempted to make/see a swarm of it... nice one... |
| Vestigial_Thumb08-07-05, 09:55 PM | I hate it when I encounter this. It gets itself stuck to the laundry and when I eventually get it off and drop it, it seems to glide towards the next piece of fabric. Alignment: Always Chaotic Evil. |
| Flushmaster08-07-05, 11:32 PM | I was thinking true neutral, or perhaps neutral evil. After all, it doesn't actively do anything but sit still in a pocket or wander about seeking such a location and attacking anything that comes into contact with it. I'm actually starting to write a Dragonmech game (a wonderful setting that includes steampunk and high fantasy in a semi post apocalyptic world) for when I get back to campus in a few weeks and I can probably toss in one or two of these things there, and maybe a larger version (tiny or small size) that lurks in the corners behind a steam powered laundry room. |
| The_Rose08-08-05, 09:54 AM | Could you imagine a swarm of dire lint? What would it be called, a dire sweater? I like the idea of a Rogue picking someone's pocket and taking a point or 2 of abrasion damage... put the fear o' DM in them :evillaugh: |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.08-08-05, 07:01 PM | Add the earth subtype. |
| Morka08-08-05, 08:31 PM | Weapon Finesse should be a bonus feat, since the Dire Lint doesn't have the required +1 BAB. The feat should be Dodge: "You see the linty thing tumbling left and right, trying to avoid your hits!" |
