I think I may be going insane, but I can't figure out the duration, as the text is confusing. Here it is, if you don't know:

Paralytic Salive (Ex) Paralysis 1 round; Fort DC 14 negates. Each round, a paralyzed creature victim can attempt another Fortitude save to break the paralysis.

So...what is the duration of the paralysis? It says one round, but then why the part about being able to break the paralysis each round?

And if it's not one round in duration, does it just last until they break free?

So confused...

I would say to make the duration 1 round, the rest of the quote just looks like a cut and paste from the hold person spell... note that the dire maggot has much more wrong with it then this, it is perhaps the most under-edited creature ever released by WotC, for instance what size catagory is it (the size line says one thing, while the size modifiers in the statblock would indicate something else).

According to Libris Mortis:

Paralytic Saliva (Ex): A creature bitten by a dire maggot must make a DC 14 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Although the statistics are still wonky in the book, the errata corrects them (along with many other monsters).

So that's where they are from...

I own the book, but the one I saw that was screwed up was in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. I'm suprised they didn't fix it in the transition to the other book.
