01-18-05, 04:32 AM Is there a Dire Animal Template somewhere in the books? I need to generate a Dire Owl! I have the Races of Stone sourcebook with the Dire Eagle, but would rather have a source than reverse engineer.

I have the Races of Stone sourcebook with the Dire Eagle, but would rather have a source than reverse engineer. usually you can advance the base animal's hit dice to make it one size larger, it will get a str and con increase and natural armor increase from the boost. Then just call it "dire" :) ....your players will never know the differance.

01-18-05, 09:17 AM I believe originally they weren't going to make a Dire Owl or Dire Eagle, because they already have "Giant" versions of each, which are the same size as the 'dire' would be, but are also intelligent.

Obviously, somebody changed policy in the Races series, but that's why they don't exist already. I'd just take the Giant Owl and pull its Int down to normal animal levels.
