| whitishknight11-22-07, 05:01 PM | The Dire Toad in MM II, while a great improvement over the regular Toad, seems to have lost the amphibious trait in the stat block, even though it is mentioned as a amphibious creature in the flavor text. Also... it doesn't have a swim speed? Is there any errata on this issue, or would adding the amphibious trait and swim speed be justifiable? If so, what would the swim speed be? |

| Xiuhcoatl11-22-07, 05:10 PM | By the RAW, toads should not be amphibious. Amphibious means you can breath air and water. Toads cannot breath water. |
| whitishknight11-22-07, 05:29 PM | Perhaps Hold Breath then, with a x6 Constitution modifier rounds before drowning ability, similar to porpoises? In any case, I'm more bummed out by the lack of a swim speed. Would a swim speed equal to or half land speed be more appropriate? |
| Talisman11-22-07, 05:33 PM | 1. Catch a toad 2. Get it to run. 3. Calculate its speed. 4. Place toad in water. 5. Calculate its swimming speed compared to its land speed 6. Translate into D&D terms. 7. Scale up for the toad being humongous. ...or you could just give it whatever seems fair. Toads aren't terrific swimmers...nowhere near equal to frogs, for instance. |
