They are also known for their ability to travel long distances without food and water. Carrying capacity: a light load is 519 lbs., medium load is 520-1038 lbs., and a heavy load would be 1039-1560. Dire War camels can drag 7800 lbs. (sa) Spit: A dire war camel can spit a goopy, sticky, stinky, glob of mucus once every 1d10 rounds. This spit will blind an individual until they take a full round to remove it. Reflex save (DC 18) to avoid. A dire war camel can spit up to 30'. I Originally Posted This Thread In Campaign Workshop |

I don't have the book in front of me right now, but this doesn't seem to be a Dire animal at all. I would think a Dire Camel would be Huge sized and have a thicker Natural Armor among other things. Did you use the Warbeast template from Arms and Equiipment Guide or a homebrew? What formula did you use to come up with the save DC for the Spit. Seems like it should be 10+1/2HD+Dex mod for a total of 16. A Huge Dire Camel wearing a howdah full of orcs would be pretty intimidating. |
| TheWhateverSlayer05-05-07, 10:24 PM | May have some flaws I am unsure at this time due to I created the Dire War Camel While in possesion of the MM 3e Which I no longer have now that I own v. 3.5 but in comparison to the creatures in their size did not change by making a creature a dire or war animal. Again uncertain at this moment to how the spit DC came to be. I do most of my creating using the game rules to the best of my knowledge. I don't try to smudge them in attemts to create way out things. But if the DC does not fit the rules the for that I appoligize and you can use the DC of 16. As for the size of the Dire War Camel I am fairly certain that that is correct thank you for your critique, I do appreciate it. |
| Mournoth05-06-07, 12:26 AM | yeah. they should be huge, or at least be able to advance in hit dice to huge. Also, the should have catapults mounted on their backs. Because that's just awesome. |
| Velcro Zipper05-06-07, 01:50 AM | It'd be nice if there was a Dire template. Since there isn't, I'd just say Dire Animals should be at least one size category larger than ordinary animals. That seems to be the trend with Dire Animals. Increased Strength, Constitution, and Natural Armor makes sense too. |

That does seem to be the trend with most of the smeller animals that they increase in size catagory, but most of the large animals don't become huge. That isn't to say that thet don't become bigger they just don't increase in size catagory. E.G. Dire and animals that are the same size catagory. Ape, Bear, Lion, Rhinocerous, Tiger All these are Large in they animal stats as well as Dire stats. Sure if you would like to have Dire War Camels in your campaign you could make them large if you chose to do so or even have them be able to advance in size to become large. For me the purpose was to create a suitable mount for the Sand Orcs and Huge just does not fit my vision. The great thing about D&D is we can all disagree but the truth is what works in your game make work differently in mine and neither of us would be wrong. I do enjoy the feedback it makes me do some reseach on something I have not touched on in a few years. I love my Sand Orcs and Dire War Camels yet have not used them in a couple years. just came accross them in some old campaign stuff and decided to post them. I deffinatly need to put them back in my campaigns. |

The Dire Template can be found on-line as a free pdf from Necromancer Games as it appears in their Tome of Horror. It's completely OGL.
