Hiho,

So I was reading the SRD Lycanthrope entry, and noticed that it described the poor unfortunate victim as 'gaining animal racial HD, effectively multiclassing with animal levels' (or something like that).

Does that mean that she can advance her animal HD when she goes up in level? Can she advance to become a dire were-creature, or would she need to be bitten by a dire were-creature?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search revealed bubkis (and I couldn't find anything official).

Hugs,
Cherry.

Nope. Monster advancement does not occur as a result of XP gain. Monsters advanced by racial HD are bigger, naster versions of the creatures born and/or bred that way. Only a very small number of creatures (like dragons) ever gain racial HD over the course of their existence.

Can she advance to become a dire were-creature, or would she need to be bitten by a dire were-creature?

Dire creatures are not "advanced" versions of normal creatures. The only way to become a Dire lycanthrope is to be bitter by another Dire lycanthrope.

You know, this would be a great PrC type thing for making a werwolf stronger as a werewolf.
