| Palin0010-21-03, 10:57 AM | how do you figure out the attack bonuses for a regular dire wolf.. as well as the base attack bonus for a druids companion dire wolf (druid is 17th level)?? |
| lukelightning10-21-03, 11:33 AM | A dire wolf is in the "level -6" category for druid animal companions, so it will have the bonuses for anm 11th level druid, that is, 6 bonus HD, a +6 bonus to natural armor, +3 str and dex, 4 bonus tricks, share spells, empathy, devotion and (importantly) multiattack (since the dire wolf only has one attack, this special multiattack gives it another bite attack at -5). You can see the stats for a standard dire wolf in the D&D System Reference Document (SRD) at http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/rpg/srd/srd_revised_html/MonstersDi-Do.html Yours would have 12D8+36 HP, AC 22 (-1 size, +4 dex, +9 natural). BAB of +8, grapple +21, attack: Bite +18 melee, damage 1d8+13, can make a full attack with two bites (+18 and +13). Str 28, Dex 18, Con 17, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 25 (just kidding...really 10). Special attack: trip (very yummy in 3.5...knock 'em down, get attacks of opportunity when they try to get up...including the free trip) Feats: Alertness, Run, Track, Weapon focus (bite), plus two more for the bonus HD, I'd suggest combat reflexes so it can make more attacks of opportunity, and maybe power attack. You'll have to figure out the skills, check the MM and adjust for the higher ability scores. It will also have more skills for the extra HD as well. |
