| Tav_Behemoth06-08-04, 08:31 PM | I need help for a directory of every published appearance of three iconic D&D monsters--the stirge, minotaur, and remorhaz--that I'm compiling for Behemoth3's Masters and Minions (http://www.behemoth3.com/products/mnm/) series. I've gotten lots of help from EN World (thanks y'all!), but reckoned I ought to take it to the experts :) Here's the directory so far updated 6/8 at 8 PM EST. The only limitation is that there should be some direct link to gaming (rather than just mythology & so forth); without that, the minotaur directory would get completely out of hand. All tips are welcome! Even if it's just a misty memory like "Isn't there a minotaur in the Giants series somewhere," that's a good start for someone to track it down. Revised format: - which monster and how it was used - basic publication info for the source - notes and comments Eventually each entry will have a link to the source where you can buy it! For now, Dragon articles are available in the Dragon Magazine Archive CD set at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00002EIWS/104-4820307-8984706?v=glance), TSR modules are available in PDF form at RPG Now (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1191&) (and Palace of the Silver Princess is free!) I'm planning to publish these monster-directories as part of the online and PDF editions of the Masters and Minions Horde Book devoted to that monster. (Especially for the minotaur, there won't be enough room in the print edition!). I hope to acknowledge everyone who helped compile the directory; put a note in your post or drop me an e-mail if you'd like to be thanked using your real name instead of your nick, or if you don't want to be mentioned at all. Let the monster hunt continue! |
| Haldstaff_Dundragon06-09-04, 06:36 PM | pops up in the Dragonlance Icewall Trilogy book 3 (Winterheim?) as well as a few Drizz't novels (Sea of Swords and Sojourn, I think). That's about the only thing I saw you missing. Best of luck! |
| celloshane06-09-04, 07:26 PM | Originally posted by Tav_Behemoth Minotaur: Encounters in adventures Keep on the Borderlands by E. Gary Gygax (module B2, TSR) - For people who grew up with the blue-box Basic Set that included B2, this was the primal minotaur encounter; memorable and deadly! ~ contributed by Tav_Behemoth [/B] Don't forget Return to the Keep on the Borderlands. Those minotaurs are still there, and still just as deadly! |
| Hammerclaw06-09-04, 07:26 PM | One of the early, Wizards Three articles written by Ed Greenwood mentions a Stirge variant called the Stelurge. It had a pointed tail that could stab its vitim with while it was draining blood. I also seem to remember a more up to date Ecology of the Stirge done for second edition. Both articles were in Dragon Magazine. Can't remember the issue numbers. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast06-10-04, 08:28 AM | There is a little mention of the Remorhaz in theFR series The Cleric Quintet, written by R.A Salvatore. There is one character who is from a tribe somewhere in some mountains. He has a remorhaz tatoo on his head I think, symbolising he defeated on single handedly. |
| Stebie917306-10-04, 05:12 PM | Striges: Night of the Bloodbirds, Dungeon 74... An adeventure about genetically mutated stirges and their monstrous villain creator. Minotaurs: Maze of the Riddling Minotaurs Module M1 (or M2) - A magic marker adventure. Bronze riddling minotaurs and undead minotaurs. |
| Jhalad06-11-04, 11:21 PM | Brief reference to Stirges in the 1st Halruaa book in FR. Also a CGI Rehmoraz (I know I spelled that wrong) in the intro to the Menzobarrenzan computer game. |
| Vahenir06-12-04, 02:37 AM | Minotaurs: Fiction: Legend of Huma Reavers of the Blood Sea (nearly every Dragonlance book has a Minotaur in it somewhere). There's even a trilogy devoted to them that's in the process of being published (I think only the first book is out). Richard Knaak, as is appropriate, is the author of the trilogy. |
| Tav_Behemoth06-12-04, 02:54 AM | Nice work, y'all! Here's a quick one until I get out from under some RL monsters & can update the directory: STIRGE: Illustration AD&D DMG p. 177 (TSR, 1979) - A flock of stirges; this uncredited illo inspired Sang Lee's stirge swarm (http://www.behemoth3.com/incoming/swarm.jpg) |
