Divine magic draining monster? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-11-07, 11:38 AM I love some of the templates out there that drain arcane magic power from characters. BUt I have a lot of divine spellcasters in my group, and frankly I feel like they are sometimes more overpowered than what a wizard could be at the same level.

But being a divine-based character, there role playing depends greatly on their faith. And of course that's somewhere where I try to test them the most. However, when it comes to battle, they easily identify the "evil" ones and go to hacking at them incessantly until they are dead dead dead.

I'm looking for templates that sap divine power from other creatures, or otherwise test the faith of players. I'm reminded of only really one example, I got it out of the recent Cormyr campaign adventure called Shadowslain, but that specifically says it doesn't affect shadow weave users (no problem there) or divine spell casters.

(that begs the question, don't divine spell casters use the weave too? whatever, that's another question for another thread)

Ideas on cool templates to help drain the plethora of spells my PCs have and weaken their faiths??

11-12-07, 12:30 PM I had never read those actually, thanks. Though I think I would be looking for something less undead for the moment, I think I might pull Quells into the game much later.

Something I think I just came across is from Shining South. It's called a Laraken and it drains your magic when it hits you, though it doesn't say specifically I think if it must be arcane. Plus, it is too high an EL to put against them at the moment.

11-12-07, 09:52 PM You might want to put in the quells sooner than later if you were going to at all, as they are CR 3 and only advance 5 more hit dice.
