| megatron7801-07-08, 01:26 PM | Would a Djinni or Air Elemental using its Whirlwind(Su) Special Attack be vulnerable to attacks as it normally would? I wonder about this because it says nothing about it in the Monster Manual description of the ability, and there isn't anything in Wizards' FAQ either. I would tend to think that a sword cutting thru wind would have no effect, but when I think of similar things like Gaseous Form, the caster can still be affected, albeit with Damage Reduction 10/magic. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| DebiHuman01-10-08, 10:55 AM | Technically, every creature takes damage normally unless it is noted otherwise. This was not noted. Furthermore, I checked the official errata and there was no mention of it. This was simply a matter of looking at the Rules As Written (RAW) in the primary source (I went to the SRD actually) and then checked the official errata. If the whirlwind didn't take normal damage, that would be noted. If you are asking if there is possibly a mistake in the RAW, then that is something different. It's possible. However, air elementals can do the same thing so I suspect that the game designers simply used the same wording for all these creatures. I agree that a sword "cutting through a wind" is a bit strange, but a good dm can easily make this seem plausible. The whirlwind may take damage but how it looks is up to the individual DM. You may not see any effect from slashing the whirlwind unless your DM describes it as slowing down. Another DM may describe it with gory details. Debby |

As for a 'gorier' option - ectoplasm? |
